JON JONES FEELS EXONERATED FOLLOWING USADA RULE CHANGE

By David Tees on 3/2/2023 3:58 PM

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones returns to action this Saturday Night at UFC 285, facing former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Ciryl Gane for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Title.

There was a time when Jones was suspended by USADA for failing a drug test in line with UFC 214, but USADA changed their rules regarding threshold levels for certain substances and Jones says he feels exonerated due to those changes.

“USADA has changed some of the rules regarding picogram levels and what’s allowed, and I’ve come to find out that all my findings were under the new legal limit, meaning I would have been cleared from every test I’ve ever taken,” Jones said during UFC 285 media day (transcript via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “That means a lot to me.

“I’m grateful to be the athlete who fought the system, who could afford the lawyers and the scientists to prove my innocence. I don’t know if I carried the cross or took the bullet for the rest of all the young athletes, but I was the first to have to go through it. People considered me a cheater. Now, if that same rule would have applied back then, it would have never even made the media. It would have never been a deal at all. My win over Daniel Cormier would not be a no contest. It would be a knockout. A KO victory.”
