VALENTINA SHEVCHENKO WANTS IMMEDIATE REMATCH WITH ALEXA GRASSO

By David Tees on 3/5/2023 11:00 AM

Valentina Shevchenko lost the UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship to Alexa Grasso via fourth round submission in the co-main event of UFC 285.

A defeated Shevchenko, who defended her title seven straight times before the loss, wants an immediate rematch with the new champion.

“Definitely an immediate rematch, because I know I was winning the fight,” Shevchenko told Joe Rogan during her in-cage post-fight interview (transcript via Danny Segura of MMA Junkie).

Shevchenko had previously and successfully defended the gold against Jessica Eye, Lauren Murphy, Liz Carmouche, Kaitlyn Chookagian, Jessica Andrade, Taila Santos and Jennifer Maia before losing it to Grasso.

The former champ also accepts responsibility for the mistakes she made, which led to her dropping the belt to Grasso.

“This is what happens in mixed martial arts,” Shevchenko said. “You’re winning the fight all rounds, no doubt, and a stupid situation can change the whole game. This is part of the game. Congratulations to Alexa, but I know I’m stronger. If it wasn’t for the spinning kick, it would’ve been a different result.”
