Jon Jones defeated Ciryl Gane by first round submission in the main event of UFC 285 to become the new UFC Heavyweight Champion.
Francis Ngannou was the previous title holder and he doesn’t believe a super fight with Jones will ever come to fruition.
“Fun fight, a fight I’d like to have but unfortunately, we are not there,” Ngannou said on his Youtube channel (transcript via Matthew Wells of MMA Junkie). “That fight didn’t happen, and probably will never happen now that he’s on a long, very long contract with the UFC. So, that’s not happening anymore.”
Ngannou left the UFC and vacated the heavyweight title earlier this year due to a contract dispute with the promotion. Jones is expected to face former UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic next, but no date has been announced at this time.
