JON JONES SAYS STIPE MIOCIC SHOULD FORGO FIREFIGHTER DUTIES AHEAD OF TITLE FIGHT, MIOCIC RESPONDS

UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones is expected to defend the gold next against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic.

Prior to their title bout, Jones has issued a warning to Miocic, pertaining to Miocic’s duties as a firefighter.

“I say this respectfully to Stipe — I would take time off from being a firefighter right now. And I mean that with all due respect,” Jones said during the UFC 285 post-fight press conference (transcript via Mike Heck of MMA Fighting). “My whole world is going to be focused on him. This is the biggest opportunity in my life to beat the heavyweight GOAT and I’m going give it everything I’ve got, absolutely everything I’ve got.

“Stipe is talking about the fact that he’s heavier than me right now — his head is already in the wrong spot. If he thinks weightlifting is going to beat me, he’ll never be younger than he is right now, he’ll never be faster. And I’m going to not only beat Stipe, I’m going to finish him before the championship rounds.”

Miocic and Jones reportedly going to meet this July during UFC International Fight Week, but nothing has been made official at this time.

The former champion says Jones is in for a world of hurt when they meet, while also revealing he has been a firefighter through his entire UFC run.

“I think everyone tries to say that and they realize they’re in a world of hurt when it’s not happening the way they want,” Miocic said on The MMA Hour (transcript via Alexander K. Lee of MMA Fighting). “I don’t know if he knows this, but I’ve been a fireman the whole time I’ve been in my career in the UFC. But whatever, that’s none of my business. I don’t really care.”
