NIKITA KRYLOV DETAILS WHY HE PULLED OUT OF UFC FIGHT NIGHT 220 MAIN EVENT

By David Tees on 3/9/2023 7:42 AM

Nikita Krylov and Ryan Spann were set to headline UFC Fight Night 220 on February 25, but Krylov fell ill and the bout was canceled on fight night.

A recovered Krylov says the lack of food refrigeration is what led to him getting sick and pulling out of the fight.

“In our hotel, we don’t have a refrigerator,” Krylov said during UFC Fight Night 221 media day (transcript via Matthew Wells & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie). “I took my food in the evening Friday. Saturday morning I take food, and after 90 minutes, maybe two hours, I feel myself (getting) bad. My temperature stay higher, I feel a bit of discomfort inside. We came to the Apex and we worked with a doctor. He gave me one pill. After one more pill, we tried all what I can to fight, but I can’t do it.”

Spann and Krylov now meet this weekend at UFC Fight Night 221, but their fight is no longer a main event attraction.

Krylov says he is ready to fight on Saturday Night, but it would have been better if he didn’t get sick at all, because UFC Fight Night 220 would’ve been his first UFC main event appearance.

“In theory, this looks like (it’s) better, but for me, (it would have been) better (to) make my first main event, and show great fight,” Krylov said. “But it is what it is. I’m happy and thanks God for all what happened with me, and I’m ready to fight this Saturday.”
