JOANNE WOOD SAYS SHE HAS 1-2 YEARS LEFT IN HER MMA CAREER

By David Tees on 3/12/2023 4:25 PM

Joanne Wood returns to action this coming Saturday at UFC 286, facing Luana Carolina in a women’s flyweight division attraction.

The fighter is riding a three fight losing streak and Wood knows that the pressure is on her to get a victory at UFC 286.

“I mean in a way, if I don’t beat this girl, yeah [it’s important] but I’ve still got one more fight on my contract,” Wood explained on The MMA Hour (transcript via MMA Fighting). “I’m trying not to put that pressure on myself but I feel like this girl is a perfect fight for me to get back in the win column. Just go in there and I’m excited to go back on that side of the pond and fight. The London cards have been great so I’m just excited. Trying not to put that pressure on myself cause I’ve done that in the past. This is going to be awesome, this is going to be fun and just going over there and doing what I do every day.”

Wood hasn’t won a fight in over two years, with her last victory coming at UFC 257 in January of 2021.

Win or lose at UFC 286, one thing Wood knows for sure is that she has a year or two left as a professional MMA fighter.

“I’ve probably only got another year or two in the sport,” Wood said. “We’ll see what happens in this next year. I’m getting old. I’m an old lady.”
