A featherweight title unification fight is set for UFC 290 according to Fox Sports Australia as UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski faces UFC Interim Featherweight Champion Yair Rodriguez.

Volkanovski (25-2-0) is looking to make the fifth defense of his championship, previously defending it against Max Holloway (twice), Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung. Volkanovski is coming off of a loss to UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 284 in February of this year. Volkanovski has earned 25 victories as a professional MMA fighter and 12 of those have come by way of KO/TKO.

Rodriguez (15-3-0-1NC) won the UFC Interim Featherweight Title by defeating Josh Emmett by second round submission at UFC 284. Rodriguez will enter the contest riding a two fight winning streak and he hasn’t been beaten in over a year. Rodriguez was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter Latin America 1, defeating Leonardo Morales in the finals of the reality show.

UFC 290 takes place on Saturday, July 8 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
