Daniel James may have scored a third round TKO win over Marcelo Golm in the main event of Bellator 293, but James won't be getting the next shot at the heavyweight title.
That is because Bellator President Scott Coker has revealed that Linton Vassell will be next to challenge Ryan Bader for the Bellator Heavyweight Title.
“The title shot is most likely going to go to Linton Vassell, because he’s been on a tear or two,” Coker said to MMA Junkie. ” But I think (James) is right up there. We definitely will invite him to come fight (at Bellator 297) in Chicago.”
Vassell has previously fought Bader, losing to the heavyweight champion by second round TKO at Bellator 186 in November of 2017.
James says that his leg will be healed up in time and he expects to honor Coker's wish and fight this June at Bellator 297.
“Yeah, my leg will be healed. I heal like a dog,” James said. “My leg will be healed fast, but you can’t have nothing in Chicago without me. People are already buying tickets. … Chicago, they’re waiting on me.”
