AT LEAST THE MCMAHONS WEREN'T THERE - FIRST BATCH OF READER FEEDBACK TO ECW

By PWInsiderXtra Readers on 9/6/2006 10:31 AM
The opening tag match was great, lots of good spots and the ECW originals won. Ariel grinding on Joey Styles was so awesome. He was all screaming "she's got fangs, Taz, she's got fangs!". I guess Thorn and Balls will have a feud now. It seems kind of strange though. Seeing Shannon get slapped by Punk was funny, haha. I think it'll be an interesting feud between those two. I'm guessing Punk will be the heel which would be cool.

I completely hated the main event. It went back to being an all-WWE guys main event again. I hated seeing DX. Especially the DX pyro at the end. Jesus, that pissed me off. Hyping up the DX/Macs feud every minute isn't gonna make me want to see the match more. Keep this feud and anything RAW related on RAW please. No actually, just end this feud because it stinks. Thank God the McMahon's didn't make an appearance.

ECW was solid again this week but it wasn't spectacular like past weeks. The ratings may be up there because of DX but I really think the main event brought the show down a lot. Timing was off from everybody. I love how Styles and Taz were hyping up DX the whole match. "This is historic ladies and gentleman, the legendary DX in an ECW ring! This is as good as it gets!" Ugh, please. They probably would've been booed out of the building at the Hammerstein Ballroom, and deservedly so.

Is its just me, but doesn’t it look weird staring a ECW show with the McMahons and D-X and you knew that Hunter had do the cheap shot with “Bingo.”

- RVD, Sabu taking on Test and Knox was a good match, which started off slow and then turned out to be a fun and enjoyable match to watch. There were a lot of sick spots here and it was cool to see the old tag moves of Van Dam and Sabu. I was scared for a moment, as I thought RVD hurt his neck running to the rope and was shocked on how hard Test fell on to the chair. I hate to come down on a good match, but I couldn’t help watching, but to think what happened to the Test, Knox, Dreamer, and Sandman feud. Not only that but also the RVD, Holly, as well as the Big Show, Sabu feud or Maybe it was only me thinking that.

- I guess the Sandman has moved on to facing Striker. I remember going to live shows and seeing Striker in action and I was never really impressed with his work in the ring, but since arriving in WWE and then ECW, he’s showed me a lot on the mic.

- I’m into the Vampire character and I’m really into Ariel. Hey forget the fangs, I wish I was Joey Styles at that moment. Tazz and Joey were great on the mic, especially after that incident. I was in shock for a minute, I saw Steven Richards win a match…. Finally it happened; maybe Justin Credible would be next.

- I was just getting ready to write, hey we didn’t get Punk tonight, but were lucky enough to see Shannon Moore, then we see Punk, who was right on the money saying that he’s a poser. In my opinion C.M.Punk could do better than feud with Shannon, who couldn’t even do a good job of selling at all, and they better not think about teaming them up.

- I knew better than to expect two Extreme Rules matches for the night. It was actually a good main event, I didn’t expect Holly to come out at the ending. The Sledgehammer to the head was a cool spot.

I wouldn’t say ECW was better than Raw this, I would give it a tie as ill give ECW the same grad I gave RAW, which was a A+

ECW was very good this week. Opening the show with that great RVD/ Sabu vs Test/Knox match showed me that Test and Knox are learning the ECW style. Not so much how to wrestle in ECW but how to take the wicked bumps and chair shots that Dreamer, Sandman, Richards and other ECW Originals have taken which helped put them over and get the ECW fans to accept them. This match in contrast to the same old, same old DX sh** match that ended the show helped make this weeks ECW watchable.

Heyman loaded up the rest of the show pretty good including a second match with Balls vs. Stevie which ended with interference from Kevin Thorne to help further Balls and Thorn's feud while still giving us a good competitive match between two ECW Originals. Finally, finally Reject Shannon Moore's storyline is going somewhere. CM Punks hard slap begins a promising feud between two credible opponents. The Matt Striker was good but using the death of Steve Irwin to get heel heat was horrible. I'm surprised someone didn't come over the railing after him or throw something at him. After Sandman inevitably canes Striker where do they go? How does this feud make Striker a better wrestler? It was interesting to note that the DX vs BS main event started after the break unlike previous weeks main events that started before the long break. Like I said earlier the match was nothing special. Probably indicative of what we can expect at the ppv. Overall this hour featured two good matches and one sos (same old sh**) match in one hour while RAW took two plus hours to give us four matches two of which weren't very good. I give tonight's show an 8 subtracting points for The Marine promo and stupid Matt Striker comment.

Positives

Opening Tag Match was very good

Test & Knox worked a lot harder than I expected

The crowd is starting to get behind some ECW wrestlers

Negatives

Matt Striker's sting ray comment was totally inexcusable even though he probably didn't write it

DX didn't get booed out of the building and then I remembered, sadly this isn't the Hammerstein.

A Mixture of Both

The Ariel/Mahoney/Thorn/Richards segment & the Punk/Punk segment.

The Main event segment was ok, it didn't make a lot of sense, but DX should not be celebrating in-ring at the end of ECW, that was just crap to me

Very unimpressed. with the main event having been built off what I considered a decent RAW.
