COLBY CORINO DISCUSSES THE NWA'S TERRITORY SYSTEM RETURNING, WRESTLING IN TV STUDIOS VS. THE ROAD AND MORE

By Shining Wizard Podcast on 10/11/2023 7:51 AM

Recently, the Shining Wizards (@wizardspodcast) spoke with NWA World's Junior Heavyweight Champion Colby Corino. Here are some of the highlights:

On creating his own path:  I always felt a little bit of pressure on my shoulders to be good.  I've always made a very conscious effort to not be Steve Corino Jr., because I'm sure there are a few second generation wrestlers that come off the top of your head that you can think of that weren't as successful as their fathers were because they tried to just be their father's junior.  I always tried to make it a habit to try and be innovative and be very creative with what I do, and try to present stuff that's completely new.  So when people see me, it's not just the King Of Old School, Part Two, and they're watching a new and exciting wrestler that they actually want to watch, and not just because they're like "I remember his dad and he was very good."

On the NWA's return to the territory system:  I'm excited.  It's been just over a month since I've won the championship, and I've had twelve title defenses already, and I've got three more lined up for the month of October, or four including the match with Joe Alonso.  So, I don't plan on stopping.  If the territory system is going to help me with that, it's awesome.  I hope that we start to make more NWA territories in other markets that NWA doesn't go to so we have good representation all around the country, and the world maybe.

On studio shows vs. road settings:  I love the studio setting because it's such a small and isolated space that you have so much control over what goes on as far as the set and stuff.  We're able to change the set.  This new season of Power, everything's changed up.  We've added these new cool production things with the entrances and stuff, and I don't think that would be as possible if we were doing road shows as often.  But don't get me wrong,  I love doing these road shows.  I think it's good to have a healthy mix of both.  Have the studio be the home base of shows and be able to travel around so everyone can see their favorite NWA stars.
