REPORT: YOHAN LAINESSE FACES SAM PATTERSON AT UFC 297

By David Tees on 11/2/2023 5:48 PM

The first UFC pay-per-view of 2024 apparently has its first fight because Knockout Alerts (via Marcel Dorff) is reporting that Yohan Lainesse faces Sam Patterson on that night.

Lainesse (9-2-0) has won just one of three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Darian Weeks at UFC 279 in September of 2022. Lainesse also competed on Dana White’s Contender Series, defeating Justin Burlinson by first round knockout during the 2021 season. Lainesse has competed 11 times as a professional MMA fighter and just two of those bouts went the distance.

Patterson (10-2-1) is winless thus far in UFC competition, dropping a bout to Yanal Ashmoz at UFC 286 in March of this year. Patterson also competed on Dana White’s Contender Series, defeating Vinicius Sacchelli Cenci by second round submission during the 2022 season. Patterson has suffered two losses as a professional MMA fighter and both of those defeats came by KO/TKO.

UFC 297 takes place on Saturday, January 20 from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with no main event announced at this time. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
