By Mike Johnson on 11/10/2023 10:00 AM

The new documentary LUCHA: A WRESTLING TALE will screen this weekend at the Doc NYC Festival.

Directed and Produced by Marco Ricci, the synopsis of the film notes - "Taft High School, the South Bronx. It's known for being the first High School in the country to have metal detectors but a group of pioneering women on the school's wrestling team are looking to change that legacy and their lives. Shirley wants a college scholarship, Nyasia wants to get in shape, Mariam is juggling studies and sports, and Alba is a recent immigrant looking for a home. Shot over the course of two plus years, the film weaves together practices, matches, and "at home" footage to create an intimate portrait of four young women, and a team, struggling to overcome the daily challenges around them."

The film will screen this weekend at DOC NYC at the following locations:

Saturday, November 11th @ 3:45PM, Village East by Angelika  - WORLD PREMIERE, followed by a Q&A with director Marco Ricci, subjects Shirley Paulihno, Nyasia Jennings, Mariam Sillah, Shakye Ford, Samantha Torres, Robert Carrillo, Josh Lee.
