A dream fight for many MMA fans would see UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones pitted against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou.
As far as Ngannou is concerned, both he and Jones wanted the fight to happened, but it was the UFC who has to accept the blame for things not coming to fruition.
“I think we both were asking for it,” Ngannou said on The Last Stand podcast (transcript via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “My reason [it didn’t happen] is the UFC. The UFC’s responsible for this fight [not happening].”
Jones, since Ngannou left the UFC, went onto become the UFC Heavyweight Champion, while Ngannou has gone on to box Tyson Fury.
Ngannou still hopes that those from the PFL can talk to the UFC brass about making the fight with Jones happen.
“I think that fight should happen and I’ve been [asking] for this fight,” Ngannou said. “I think I can go back to the PFL and talk about this and make this fight happen.”
