RETIRED UFC VETERAN JULIE KEDZIE PLANS ON DONATING BRAIN FOR RESEARCH

By David Tees on 11/15/2023 4:33 PM

It has been nearly a decade since the last time Julie Kedzie competed in a professional MMA fight, but she does remain active in the sport as an integral member of Invicta FC.

The retired fighter recently revealed that when she passes, she will be donating her brain to science for research.

"It seems a very normal thing to do," Kedzie tells BBC Sport. "I've been hit in the head a lot so we might as well see what is in there and get some good out of it for data. If there is a way that I can still keep pushing in this field [of mixed martial arts] and advancing the cause of women, then yeah."

Kedzie did go 0-2-0 during her time in the UFC, but did finish her professional MMA career with a record of 16-13-0.

One major reason Kedzie wants to donate her brain, outside of having it studied for CTE purposes, is to help female MMA fighters.

"I want to give back to the women in this sport because there are all these studies on male athletes' brains and there might be something completely different from a female athlete's perspective,” says Kedzie.
