By David Tees on 11/21/2023 10:11 AM

A light heavyweight division attraction, originally set for UFC Shanghai, has been rebooked for UFC 298 according to Leo Guimaraes as Mingyang Zhang faces Brendson Ribeiro.

Zhang (16-6-0) is undefeated thus far under the UFC banner, having defeated George Tokkos by first round knockout at Road To UFC Singapore. Zhang comes into the bout riding a nine fight winning streak and he hasn’t been defeated in over four years. Zhang has fought a total of 22 times as a professional MMA fighter and just one of those bouts went the distance.

Ribeiro (15-5-0-1NC) is going to be making his UFC debut in this encounter and does so on the strength of a three fight winning streak. Ribeiro competed on Dana White’s Contender Series, defeating Bruno Lopes by first round knockout during the 2023 season. Ribeiro has seen his last five fights end within the opening round and it has been over two years since he fought past the first round.

UFC 298 takes place on Saturday, February 17 from a location to be announced with Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria headlining. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
