Erin Blanchfield and Manon Fiorot currently sit at #2 and #3 in the UFC Women’s Flyweight Division.
Both fighters would like to compete for the UFC Women’s Flyweight Title, but Blanchfield feels that a bout with Fiorot is probably next.
“Yeah, it’s definitely stalling,” Blanchfield recently said during an online live stream for digital wallet platform HUMBL (transcript via Nolan King of MMA Junkie). “I feel like I’ve had a couple No. 1 contender fights now. But you know, I’m still pretty young and gained valuable experience in those fights. … Whether it’s an interim or not, I’ll beat (Fiorot), and then I should definitely get a title next.”
Alexa Grasso is the current women’s flyweight champion, but she has recently underwent hand surgery and could be out for awhile, plus she is expected to fight former UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko next, which would be the third fight between the two.
Blanchfield believes that if a shot at the women’s flyweight title isn’t in her immediate future, than her next fight should be for interim gold.
“I haven’t been told about that yet,” Blanchfield said. "I would definitely push for that. That’s something I’d definitely be interested in. I’m not sure when Valentina and Alexa are going to be ready to fight again. I know I think they’re on a similar timeline in their recovery. I would hope that if it ends up being longer, they’d have me and Manon fight for an interim.”
