Arman Tsarukyan needed just over a minute to defeat Beneil Dariush in the main event of UFC Fight Night Austin.
As far as Tsarukyan is concerned, a shot at the UFC Lightweight Title should be next for him after the victory over Dariush.
“Charles (Oliveira) knocked him out, and if I won by decision, how am I going to fight for the title?” Tsarukyan said after the event (transcript via Danny Segura & Matthew Wells of MMA Junkie). “But I knocked him out faster than Charles, and he didn’t take me down like he did with Charles. I performed better than Charles. Charles already had the opportunity, so it’s my time right now.”
Islam Makhachev, who is the current UFC Lightweight Champion, doesn’t have his next title defense scheduled at this time.
Tsarukyan is also open to fighting Justin Gaethje, but a lightweight title shot is what the fighter really wants in the end.
“If they’re not going to give me a title shot, then we have to figure it out. But hopefully they give me a title fight and that’s it,” says Tsarukyan.
