Khamzat Chimaev last competed at UFC 294, scoring a decision victory over former UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman.
A victorious Chimaev injured his right hand during the bout and is expected to get surgery to repair the damage within the next two weeks.
“I’m going to do a surgery, operation in one, two weeks,” Chimaev said on an Instagram Live video (transcript via Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie). “After that, do the recovery, come back, smash somebody.”
Chimaev was expected to get a middleweight title shot with the win over Usman, but Sean Strickland will now be defending the gold against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297, as Chimaev will be recovering from the forthcoming surgery.
The middleweight contender also wants people to tell UFC CEO Dana White to book him on the upcoming UFC 300 card.
“Tell Dana White (to) make that happen,” Chimaev said.
