UFC Flyweight Champion Alexandre Pantoja will face Brandon Royval next Saturday Night in the co-main event of UFC 296.
The UFC usually has a backup fighter ready just in case the champion or the challenger can’t make it to the title fight for any reason and Marcel Dorff has revealed that former UFC Flyweight Champion Brandon Moreno will be the backup fighter for Pantoja vs. Royval.
Moreno is currently scheduled to face Amir Albazi at UFC Fight Night Mexico City, there is no word yet on how Moreno’s backup fighter status may affect that encounter.
UFC 296 takes place on Saturday, December 16 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Leon Edwards and Colby Covington headlining. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
