A welterweight division attraction has been added to UFC 299 according to Benny P as #4 Gilbert Burns faces #11 Jack Della Maddalena.
Burns (22-6-0) has won two of his last four under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over the duo of Neil Magny and Jorge Masvidal. Burns has previously challenged for the UFC Welterweight Title, losing to then champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 258. Burns has competed 28 times as a professional MMA fighter and just 11 of those encounters went the distance.
Maddalena (16-2-0) is undefeated thus far in the UFC, having defeated Pete Rodriguez, Ramazan Emeev, Danny Roberts, Randy Brown, Bassil Hafez and Kevin Holland. Maddalena also competed on Dana White’s Contender Series, defeating Ange Loosa by unanimous decision during the 2021 season. Maddalena hasn’t been defeated in over seven years, with that last loss coming to Darcy Vendy at Eternal MMA 17 in May of 2016.
UFC 299 takes place on Saturday, March 9 from a location to be announced with Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera headlining. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
