Ian Garry and Vicente Luque are set to meet in a welterweight division encounter next weekend at UFC 296.
Due to some recent personal issues between Garry and UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland, among other, being made public, Garry states that he has started to fear for his family’s safety as we head into UFC 296.
“I’m excited for UFC 296,” Garry said to TNT Sports (transcript via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “I think it’s a massive card. A card with all the big names, a lot of big matchups. I’m a little bit cautious about going to America for the safety of my family with all the s*** that’s been going on online. To protect my wife, to protect my child, to protect myself.”
Strickland and Garry were both at the UFC Performance Institute earlier this week and were allegedly kept apart by security during their respective times there.
Garry isn’t trying to focus on Strickland though, because he has a lot of fight week activities to focus on.
“The buildup to fight week I love,” Garry said. “The press conferences, weigh-ins, everything. I love it. It’s energy. I thrive off it, but me not being able to react to people in person, it’s going to wind me up a little bit.”
