GSP SHOOTS DOWN COMEBACK RUMORS

By David Tees on 12/11/2023 2:44 PM

Former two division UFC champion Georges St. Pierre last competed at UFC 217 in November of 2017, defeating Michael Bisping to win the UFC Middleweight Title.

UFC CEO Dana White recently hinted that GSP could be making a comeback, but GSP is quick to shoot those rumors down.

“Absolutely not,” St. Pierre told reporters after Sunday’s UFC Fight Pass Invitational event (transcript via Farah Hannoun & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie). “I promise you, I always told myself that I will not fight in the cage after the age of 40. I don’t say I will never compete in any combat sport event, but a fight in a cage professionally in a serious thing for my legacy, I will not do it.”

GSP was set to compete in a grappling match at last night’s UFC Fight Pass Invitational, but was forced to withdrawal due to injury.

The former two division champion believes that being 42 years old and not properly resting while training for the grappling match is how he got injured in the first place.

“I’m extremely competitive, and sometimes I forget that I’m 42, and I don’t give myself enough rest, and that’s why I think I partially tore my labrum, my subscap, and my rotator cuff,” St. Pierre said. “But my shoulder is getting better, and we’ll see how it goes.”
