DANA WHITE SAYS TONY FERGUSON SHOULD RETIRE AFTER UFC 296 LOSS

By David Tees on 12/17/2023 2:45 PM

Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson suffered a unanimous decision loss to Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296.

The loss was the seventh straight for Ferguson and UFC CEO Dana White believes it is time for Ferguson to retire.

“When you talk about a skid, you look at the guys he fought, too,” White said at the UFC 296 post-fight press conference (transcript via Danny Segura & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie). “That plays a factor into it, and how did he look right up until he lost? Tonight, Tony looked like he should retire.”

Ferguson hasn’t won a fight in over four years, while those seven straight defeats came at the hands of Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush, Michael Chandler, Nate Diaz, Bobby Green and the aforementioned Pimblett.
