Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt won the title from former UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz at UFC 207 in December of 2016.
For those who would like to see a rematch between the two, don’t expect one, at least if Garbrandt has his way.
“Honestly, that fight doesn’t interest me,” Garbrandt told ESPN (transcript via Danny Segura of MMA Junkie). “What else am I supposed to do with the guy? I mean, go in and knock him out this time? That’s the only thing that would go put a statement or top that. It’s so hard to top that performance.”
Both fighters have had a hard time finding Octagon success after their initial meeting in 2016, as Garbrandt has gone 3-5-0 since the first meeting, while Cruz has gone 2-2-0.
There is one fighter that Garbrandt does seem interested in fighting and that is former UFC Flyweight Champion Deiveson Figueiredo.
“At the end of the day, Deiveson Figueiredo coming to the bantamweight division and having a win over Rob Font, I go knock Deiveson out, and it puts me right back in title contention,” Garbrandt said. “That’s what I’m here to do. I don’t want to be a runnerup in this sport. I always want to be at the top. I think that fight stylistically and everything it mounts to puts me back in the top.”
