KHAMZAT CHIMAEV SAYS HE’LL BE GETTING THE NEXT MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE SHOT

By David Tees on 1/9/2024 12:17 PM

UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland will be defending the gold against Dricus Du Plessis later this month in the main event of UFC 297.

No matter who walks away with the title on that night, one person wants the next title shot and that person is Khamzat Chimaev.

“One hundred percent,” Chimaev said in an interview with Mohammed Hijab (transcript via Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie). “He (Strickland) has a good fighter who he’s fighting with, Du Plessis, and if he wins against this guy, for sure we’re going to fight 100 percent. They promised for me that fight, so now we’re going to wait who’s winning the fight and then take the belt.”

Chimaev hasn’t competed since defeating former UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 294 and has been dealing with a series of health issues since.
