By David Tees on 1/11/2024 7:57 PM

Amir Albazi has been pulled from the main event of UFC Fight Night Mexico City and the UFC has announced that Brandon Royval will step in on short notice to face Brandon Moreno in the main event.

Moreno (21-7-2) is competing for the first time since losing the UFC Flyweight Title to Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290 in July of this year. Moreno is a former two-time UFC Flyweight Title, defeating Deiveson Figueiredo twice to start both reigns. Moreno is competing on a Fight Night card for the first time in almost four years, with his last appearance coming at UFC Fight Night 170 in January of 2020.

Royval (15-6-0) is competing for the first time since losing to UFC Flyweight Champion Alexandre Pantoja in the co-main event of UFC 296. Royval lost his first meeting with Moreno, which came via first round TKO at UFC 255 in November of 2020. Royval will be headlining his first UFC card, despite having been with the promotion for over three years.

UFC Fight Night Mexico City takes place on Saturday, February 24 from the Mexico City Arena in Mexico City, Mexico with Brandon Moreno and Brandon Royval headlining. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
