HENRY CEJUDO SAYS HE MAY RETIRE AGAIN IF HE LOSES TO MERAB DVALISHVILI

Former two division UFC champion Henry Cejudo will be fighting Merab Dvalishvili next month at UFC 298.

Cejudo says he will consider retiring for a second time if he winds up losing to Dvalishvili at UFC 298.

“This is for the No. 1 contender spot,” Cejudo said on The HJR Experiment (transcript via Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie). “I think to have to lose it to Aljamain, I think if I was going to go maybe down the ladder, I would probably be done with fighting again because it’s just like the sport is hard, man. Training camps, having two kids, and things like that. … It’s all or nothing, man.”

The former two division champion previously retired after a successful bantamweight title defense against former UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 in May of 2020.

One thing Cejudo readily admits is that one reason he returned to action after his first retirement was due to the money he could make.

“It’s more of a motivation of vengeance,” Cejudo said. “It’s not always the love. Even coming back to the sport, I was like, ‘I want to test myself.’ I like the matchup (vs. Sterling). It has been three years, but it was also the financial compensation. I mean, there’s nothing easier to make money than the fight game.”
