It appears that the co-main event for UFC 299 will have to undergo some changes as former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier won’t be fighting Benoit Saint-Denis.
Poirier first hinted at the fight not happening with the following post on X:

Brett Okamoto of ESPN, who texted with Poirier, put the following on X:
Dustin Poirier (@DustinPoirier) expands on his recent "fights off" tweet (against Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299) to me via text ... "There was no contractual agreement before the fight was announced and we couldn't come to terms."

Ariel Helwani, who also texted with Poirier, also posted the following on X:
I reached out to @DustinPoirier about his tweet that the BSD fight at 299 is off.

His response:
“There was no contractual agreement before the fight was announced and we couldn't come to terms.”
There has been no comment yet from either the UFC and/or Saint-Denis.
Update (4:35pm EST.): Poirier has now taken to X to say the fight is back on...
Sorry folks, I jumped the gun, I couldn't get a hold of my manager for a few days. I just spoke with him and Hunter. Misunderstanding on my part. Fight is on! See you March 9th Miami!!! pic.twitter.com/oPriv0dMQq
