TOO MANY ADS FOR UNFORGIVEN AND MARINE FOR AN HOUR SHOW - READER FEEDBACK TO ECW

By PWInsiderXtra Readers on 9/13/2006 9:53 AM
From the Bingo Hall to the Garden. ECW debuts at the worlds most famous arena: Madison Square Garden. Before I get into my thoughts on the show, I have one comment. Im am sick and tired of people calling this WWECW. Yeah its not the old ECW, so what, its a newer version. Whoever thought it was going to be like the old ECW, well then those people are just ignorant, straight up. Like Heyman and Vince said, its the new ECW, get used to it. Watch it if you want, but if your just going to Watch and every week say o its not like the old ECW, then your better off watching tapes and dvds every week of the old ECW.

Paul Heyman come out was a smart way to start the show off, as he really put over the importance of ECW at the arena. I noticed they were using the house show entrance, which looked cool, from a TV stand point.

RVD and Hardcore Holly had a good, solid match. It looks like there setting up a Survivor Series match early with the ECW originals (Sabu, RVD, Sandman, and Tommy Dreamer) and the new ECW faces ( Big Show, Hardcore Holly, Mike Knox, and Test). I don't see Steven Richards in this feud because I think he was just put there to take up a spot since Show was getting ready for Sabu.

C.M.Punk had a nice, short, squash match against "The Reject" Shannon Moore. Moore looked more like a retard instead of a reject. René Dupree is next.

Dupree and Balls had an ok match, but Renée's debut was just a way to further the Balls, and Thorne feud.

Show and Sabu had a decent match, not the best that they have had on SCI FI. My opinion ECW had a good night and debut at MSG the right way.

The debut at MSG was another solid episode for ECW. The RVD vs. Bob Holly match was a pretty good match up until the ending. The DQ finish doesn't work for me, but I like the feud between the ECW originals and the new guys. I could see this leading up to a traditional Survival Series match; it would be a really good way to work the brand onto one of the "big four" pay-per-views and continue the feud. It was also interesting to have Stevie Richards side with the new guys even though he took the brunt of the beating from the originals.

CM Punk got a good reaction from the MSG crowd, and he continued to look good. Eventually they need to let him show more of his move set, otherwise his matches might start to seem repetitive. I am not sure what they can do with the feud with Shannon Moore because Moore tapped out cleanly. I can't see Moore getting over with his current gimmick.

I like the additions of Holly and Matt Striker to the ECW roster, but Rene Dupree just doesn't work for me. His promos are boring, and his in-ring work is not much better. I thought the Balls vs. Kevin Thorn interaction was the best part of this match. Kelly Kelly has no presence on television; she just looks and acts lost. As for the Marine trailers, the more I see them, the less I want to see the movie.

This main event with Big Show vs. Sabu was entertaining and featured some cool table spots. I liked how the announcers emphasized that the extreme rules stipulation was a double-edged sword for Sabu in the mach. I always prefer shows without the Raw or SmackDown crossovers. ECW is at its best when its allowed to distinguish itself from the other WWE brands.

Hey Yo...

This weeks show gets a 4 out of 10...Most due to Ariel (With a new hair cut...HRMF !##!#!#), Cm Punk and Sabu...RVD vs. Holly was sloppy and short. Time to end the program guys...Maybe try RVD vs. Test ??? I sure hope that next weeks main event is RVD/Sandman/Dreamer vs. Test/Knox/Holly, could be a good match. No "WWE guys" on the show surprised me in a good way. I'd expected DX to run in during the main event to further the feud with the McMahon's & Big Show.. CM Punk vs. Shannon Moore was too short to make out, but Punk got a great reception from the crowd. Cm punk eyeball's Kelly is stupid, but if it leads to him defeating Mike Knox - then I'm fine with it..

Balls Mahoney vs. Rene Dupree was ok, nothing more...Balls deserves better. Main Event was a let down. It's time to try something other than Sabu vs. Big Show. The crowd was also a bit of a let down...I'd expected them to "rule" the show, but it didn't happen...

Overall it gets a weak 4 out of 10...Here's hoping for improvement next week...And Francine on my TV soon...lol

I had a couple thoughts while watching the show last night. There was a lot of good wrestling, but the Big Show was awful. Sabu really should have gotten the win, RVD should have helped fight off the interference, and there should have been a lot more action.

I gave Shannon Moore the benefit of the doubt until now. I like him, but that gimmick is awful. They should clean him up and send him to the Smackdown cruiserweight division.

Rene Dupree, on the other hand, they should just send him home. He has no business in WWE or ECW, in my opinion. La Resistance was ok, but by himself he's just terrible.

I liked the opening angle, RVD/Holly and CM Punk's performance. Sabu put in a good effort, too.

Still, by the time the show was over it felt more like "This commercial break has been brought to you by ECW" instead of the other way around. Way too many ads - including Raw recaps and ads for Unforgiven and the Marine. It's only an hour show!
