Now, I am well aware that PFL is still clawing its way into MMA fans’ hearts. They recently purchased and merged with Bellator. They put on a big PPV last month that was a bit polarizing in the reviews. So…why talk about the European branch of it? Well, if you want to know who the PFL sees as possible big stars in the future, look no further than this show. They are VERY high on both Cedric Doumbe and Abdoul Abdouraguimov.
Cedric Doumbe had a weird series of events that led to his UFC release before he ever fought for them. Despite that, he has knocked out everyone put in front of him. There is a lot of hype behind him and I, for one, am excited to see if he can do it again.
Abdoul Abdouraguimov is also one to watch. “The Lazy King” was calling UFC fighters out last summer - to the point where UFC fighters were agreeing to fights with him, not knowing that he had yet to sign. Surprisingly, though, he signed with PFL Europe and will now be featured on this big show in the co-main event.
Truth be told, 99% of the rest of the fights will have fighters that I do not know much about. However, that is another reason why I am excited to watch this tomorrow! More guys will get on my radar and it should be fun to see if anyone can impress beyond who the PFL will be shining the spotlight on. I think the PFL is being very smart about this. While there aren’t plans to air more PFL Europe events for free, this may attract some new fans and subscribers to DAZN.
How about you? Will you check out the show now that it is free on YouTube? If you do, let me know what you think at matt.tenhoeve@gmail.com. While I won’t be able to watch it live, I’ll possibly give some thoughts on the show later this week or as I give some thoughts on UFC 299, which I cannot wait for! See you then!
