PFL Europe: Paris Quick Review

March 7, 2024

The last time I checked, today’s PFL Europe: Paris show had about 300,000 viewers on YouTube. That means that a good amount of people were checking out what the European branch of PFL had to offer for the first time…just to be mostly disappointed, unfortunately.

Let’s take a quick look at the results…

Baissangour Chamsoudinov def. Cédric Doumbé via R3 TKO (Toe Injury), 1:21

Abdoul Abdouraguimov def. Jack Grant via Split-Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Ibrahim Mané def. Chequina Noso Pedro by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) — PFL Europe welterweight quarterfinal

Ignacio Capella def. Yazid Chouchane by knockout, Round 2, 2:31— lightweight quarterfinal

Jakub Kaszuba def. Kane Mousah by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) — lightweight quarterfinal

Daniele Miceli def. Yassin Najid by technical submission (Von Flue choke), Round 1, 0:27  — welterweight quarterfinal

Islem Masraf def. Mickaël Groguhe by knockout, Round 1, 0:10

Patrick Habirora def. Claudio Pacella by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Connor Hughes def. Anatolij Baal by knockout (uppercut), Round 1, 1:31 — lightweight quarterfinal

Daniele Scatizzi def. Aleksandr Chizov by submission (inside heel hook), Round 1, 1:59 — lightweight quarterfinal

Florim Zendeli def. Tomasz Łangowski by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 1, 4:11 — welterweight quarterfinal

Kevin Del def. Younes Najid by submission (kneebar), Round 1, 1:10

Andreeas Binder vs. Mark Ewen – cancelled

Marian Dimitrov vs. Erhan Kartal — welterweight quarterfinal (cancelled due to Kartal weight miss)

That’s right…Cedric Doumbe lost for the first time in MMA due to a toe injury, which looked like a splinter. It was a weird moment. Doumbe wasn’t having the showing that most MMA fans are used to from him. He was getting taken down and Chamsoudinov seemed to have a good plan to counter Doumbe’s strikes. Then, in the third round, Doumbe started to complain to the ref about his toe. The ref told him to keep fighting and Doumbe wasn’t really making fight moves. Therefore, the ref called for the stoppage. Marc Goddard is a veteran MMA referee and is on most important fight cards. However, many people are questioning his decision to not look into the foot injury more before calling the fight. Either way, this is a disappointing loss for Doumbe and a disappointing moment for PFL Europe. My guess is that this moment might have turned people off to the promotion, but we will see with future shows.

The show wasn’t helped by Abdoul Abdouraguimov getting a split decision win. I think many were hoping for a fun win by him, but he just went about the fight in his quirky way and almost allowed the judges to hand him a loss.

Ignacio Capella vs. Yazid Chouchane is worth checking out, though. It was a fun back and forth fight while it lasted and Capella’s knockout was nasty.
