[Accra. 10.03.24] Mixed Martial Arts competition commenced in Ghana this evening as the sport made its debut in continental Olympic event, the 2023 African Games. Showcasing national teams from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote D`Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Libya, Nigeria, Sudan, Togo and Uganda at the Bukam Stadium in Accra, MMA put a stake in the ground for the sport and for Africa. The 13th edition of the four-year, multi-sport event runs from 8 to 23 March, organised by the African Union (AU), the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), the Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC) and the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA). Officially recognised by the Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC), GAMMA holds the vision of seeing the MMA accepted internationally by the Olympic movement and one day entering The Olympic Games.
