Pantoja (27-5-0) is going to be making the second defense of his championship, last defending it against Brandon Royval at UFC 296. Pantoja won the flyweight title back at UFC 290, where he defeated Brandon Moreno by split decision. Pantoja enters the fight riding a five fights winning streak and he hasn’t been defeated in over three years.
Erceg (12-1-0) is getting his first chance to win UFC gold, despite having been with the promotion for less than a year. Erceg has earned three wins under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over David Dvorak, Alessandro Costa and Matt Schnell. Erceg has suffered just a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter and that came against Sean Gauci at Hex Fight Series 11 in September of 2017.
UFC 301 takes place on Saturday, May 4 from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil with no main event announced at this time. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
