Bellator Champions Series 2: Mix vs. Magomedov Takeaways and Thoughts

May 20, 2024

The Bellator Champions Series had its second installment on Friday in Paris. The crowd was pretty hot and they got to see a fun show despite the fact that it did not contain a whole lot of household names. Let’s see how the results shook out…

Results

Undercard Standouts

Illegal strike or not, Mike Shipman’s knees are lethal. I’m excited to see his next fight, which hopefully doesn’t have controversy.

Archie Colgan is a beast. He continued his strong streak and could be a force in Bellator/PFL. I am excited to see him step up in competition the next time out.

Yves Landu did a kip up mid-fight. That was amazing!

Cedric Doumbe vs. Jaleel Willis

Jaleel Willis did his best to get in the head of Doumbe throughout the week and at the start of the fight, but Cedric did a great job of staying composed and taking care of business. Doumbe is now back on track and is looking to take on much more competitive opponents from here on out.

Patchy Mix vs. Magomed Magomedov

This was pretty much everything you want from a main event in Bellator. It was back and forth. There were hard shots being thrown. There was ground work. It had everything, including a relatively unclear winner with the split decision. In the end, though, two judges saw it for Patchy Mix, which is where I had it, as well. I thought Patchy did just enough in terms of damage and danger to get the nod over Magomedov. Despite the loss, though, Magomedov looked great and this was a major improvement over their first fight where he lost by submission.

Max

This was the second show on Max for Bellator and, once again, I thought it was super smooth. I started the show late because I was at work when it began airing. I was easily able to start from the beginning and scrub through the video packages and talking to get to the next fights. I am very happy to have the shows on Max, for sure.

Overall, I thought this was a fun watch. I was able to get some undercard guys on my radar and the top of the card was well worth the watch. The Paris crowd was really strong, which was great. I’m glad that this Bellator Champions Series goes to different areas that don’t get a lot of attention. It makes the energy a lot of fun.

What did you think of the Bellator show? Did you have Patchy Mix winning or did you see it for Magomed Magomedov? What do you think is next for Cedric Doumbe? Let me know at matt.tenhoeve@gmail.com. I’ll be back soon to talk about Saturday’s UFC Fight Night. See you then!
