LEANDRO HIGO CLAIMS BELLATOR OFFICIALS SAYS HE GETS THE NEXT BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE SHOT

By David Tees on 5/26/2024 10:50 AM

Leandro Higo last competed at Bellator Championship Series: Belfast, defeating James Gallagher by unanimous decision in a featherweight division affair.

The fighter plans on returning to bantamweight for his next fight and Higo claims that Bellator officials said he will get the next shot at the 135 pound gold.

“[Mix] called me out and Mike Kogan said I was the next challenger,” Higo said to MMA Fighting. “We don’t have a contract yet but he said that, and I hope it happens. It definitely will happen. When Mike Kogan says something, it happens. His word is enough.”

Patchy Mix is the current Bellator Bantamweight Champion, last defending the gold against Magomed Magomedov at Bellator Championship Series: Paris.

Higo would like to fight for the title in London later this year, but he is also willing to fight in enemy territory of need be.

“I hope it’s in London,” Higo said. “I wanted neutral territory. There’s also a card in San Diego, and that would be enemy territory. But this opportunity will come at the best moment of my career. I’m in my prime. I already see myself as champion. The belt will come this time.”
