Igor Severino will go down in MMA infamy as the fighter who bit Andre Lima in the arm during their bout at UFC On ESPN 53, a choice that caused Severino to lose the fight via DQ and get immediately cut by the UFC.
The Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) has held onto Severino’s fight purse following the incident and the fighter would like to have the money released to him to cover living expenses.
“I would like to know if it would be possible to release part of my purse since that fight I haven’t been able to pay all my bills, and I’ve been living with a friend and training partner,” Severino said through a translator in Portuguese to MMA Junkie). “I’m afraid that I might even be kicked out of my gym, as I’m not able to meet any dues, and I’m even having trouble eating. I would like to know if it would be possible to release part of my purse.”
NAC officials have yet to respond to Severino’s request and the commission’s next hearing is set for June 25.
