Invicta FC 55: Bernardo vs. Rubin Recap
It was great to see Invicta FC back in action on Friday night. It was their first card in 2024 and it was featured on the CBS Sports Network. It was a great return! Let’s take a look at what happened…
Main Card
Talita Bernardo def. Olga Rubin by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 2, 2:53 – for the Invicta FC bantamweight championship
Kay Hansen def. Sayury Cañon by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)
Andressa Romero def. Saori Oshima by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Taylor Guardado def. Yoko Higashi by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 1, 1:23
Preliminary Card
Elisandra “Lili” Ferreira def. Katie Saull by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Zoe Nowicki def. Josiane Oliveira by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
Violeta Mendoza def. Fallon Johnson by TKO (punches), Round 1, 4:16
Taylor Guardado vs. Yoko Higashi
Man…what a way to return to action! The night started off with Taylor Guardado being the beast she is and just running through Yoko Higashi. Guardado looked great on her feet, but then got the submission once Higashi was down. I’m excited to see Guardado again, for sure!
Andressa Romero vs. Saori Oshima
It was fun seeing Oshima back in action, but Romero got the best of her most of the time. This was a great test for Romero and she passed with flying colors. Oshima is a good name to get under your belt.
Kay Hansen vs. Sayury Cañon
Like I said in my preview, Kay Hansen was going to be a tough test for Cañon and her undefeated streak. You never know which Hansen you’re going to get in a fight. She’s either on her game or she’s not. Unfortunately for Cañon on Friday, Hansen was on her game and took away that zero in the loss column.
Talita Bernardo vs. Olga Rubin
The Bantamweight Champion retained, but it wasn’t easy. Rubin used her length nicely and got some vicious shots in on Bernardo. Bernardo had a nasty cut, but she was able to take Rubin to the ground at the perfect time and get the big submission. This was a great defense of the title and a really fun way to end the first Invicta FC card of 2024.
Much like the preview, I know this recap is a bit short, but the card was small and the show was relatively short. I ended up watching it on the DVR and finished it in about 40 minutes. Not bad! I think it was a great return for Invicta FC, though, and I am excited for the next show that they have on the CBS Sports Network.
What about you? Did you watch? What did you think of the first Invicta FC show of the year? Let me know at matt.tenhoeve@gmail.com. I’ll be back later this week to talk about this week’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter. See you then!
