NO MCMAHONS, BUT WAS IT A GOOD SHOW? - FIRST BATCH OF READER FEEDBACK TO RAW

By PWInsiderXtra Readers on 9/19/2006 10:55 AM
Are you kidding me? Murdoch and Cade in the main event instead of Orton, Carlito, Nitro, Masters, Kane. Unbelievable. I'd rather have the McMahons be there for an interview.

And what's the deal with turning Edge on his home town crowd? Not only that, having him get destroyed two nights in a row at home? What did he do to deserve that? WWE is real screwed up, if you want a real wrestling show tune into Spike TV on Thursday nights.

Awful. (By the way... someone teach John Cena how to salute the right way.)

I thought this RAW was horrendous. Wasn't worth watching and was a waste of my time. The only highlight was the IC 6-pack match. Other that that, the show was a total bore.

The main event was so despicable in that it managed to make Edge look like a complete wuss after months of looking mostly dominant, and Cena look like a nothing champ who was just standing around like a lost little boy. Please tell me why DX beat down Edge to end the show and Cena was standing there looking stupid. Or how he did the DX chops at the end with the pyro going off. Um, he's the champion, why is he fashioning himself after DX? Even before the match, he was introduced before DX. Are you kidding me? That should never happen. Since when do two old men in the middle of mid-life crises', stuck in a long dead gimmick that should've never been dug up, who are holding absolutely no titles come out after the WWE champion? What am I missing here?

I really liked during the opening promo that Edge was able to switch from the home area babyface, back to heel in 20 seconds flat. Cena picked up on it and even got himself overwhelmingly cheered after the comment he made about wanting to kick Edge's ass. I thought it was an awesome moment. But the whole promo made me realize why I have a problem with Cena's flawed character/gimmick.

I would be so much happier if he was a WWE champ that had some balls rather than one who smirks everything off like it's funny. This man was booed out of the building in Montreal and his response is to smirk it off? What kind of person allows themselves to be shat on and laughs it off like it's nothing? I was so waiting for him to be like "Shut the eff up you *ickheads" because it was needed and I could tell he wanted to say something like that, but the writers and Vince think they know what they're doing and they tell him to just ignore it. If he had told the crowd off, he would've gotten massive cheers. A friend of mine told me he thinks that part of the crowd may be crapping on him just to see if he'll snap because it's something they've been begging to see for ages. They're desperately trying to turn him, if not blown-out heel, at least a tweener. He can be a good guy and still sometimes do and say bad things.

Ignoring the negative reactions to him as if they're irrelevant is doing nothing for his character or popularity but the E fails to see this. Ignoring these booing fans will not make them stop. Use the negative reactions to your advantage, don't just push it to the side and pretend it's not there. This is why people can't take his "soldier" gimmick seriously, because he's a supposed hero that can overcome all odds in his matches and win but he can't take on and beat the crowd heat? Gimme a break.

I doubt the E will ever understand this, they'll just keep pushing him thinking everything's okay and that the crowd is just booing Cena for fun. That's not the case at all. The fans are telling you what they want. Until Vince realizes this, Cena will be booed and hated for eternity.

I don't know what it was, but I saw something I havn't seen on Raw in a long time. Pushing of talent, NO MCMAHONS!!!, above average matches, and well... in my opinion the match that stole the show, a "6 pack" match for the Intercontinental Championship.

I believe WWE creative should just finally turn Cena heel and Edge face. Edge is facing the same situation that happened with Stone Cold early in his career. The people love him. I couldn't help but cracking up seeing how the Montreal crowd casted hellfire fury upon John Cena.

Is it me, or are they trying to push Cane & Murdoch a little too fast? I prefer to see them go against DX than the McMahons though...

As much as I dislike the Umaga chracter, they are at least making him look like an unstoppable force in a good way. The multiple chair shots looked quite painful, but I just don't think Umaga has the looks needed for a "monster" character.

The backstage vignettes were just shameless and stupid... Shelton, Maria, Spirit Squad... Yawn. Wasted talent. Why wasn't Shelton in the 6 man intercontinental match?

But that match was quite great in my opinion. After watching hours of ROH, it was great to feast my eyes upon something that was actually worthy to enjoy. It looks like they can actually push Super Crazy correctly if they use him like this some more... And Chris Masters actually showed off some not so bad mic skills as well. Nitro just needs to shut up and let Melina do the talking for him...

Flair/Johnny? Yawn. Sprit Squad's force is over.

Final match was somewhat entertaining.. but it sickened me to see John Cena do the DX chop..... Are they so desperate to get him over like this? Plus what about HHH and Cena's old hatred? Creative must think about old feuds before they jump into new ones...

On a final note... did anyone else have the same thoughts when Coach said "I'm going to do what Mr. McMahon would do in a situation like this..."

Book himself in a match against DX???

Overall I wasn’t expecting anything great tonight. I mean we just got 2+ hours of wrestling on Sunday. I think there were some decent stuff – I thought the IC match was very good and I liked how they furthered the Kane/Umaga feud. Other than that and everything else was just there – no major new storylines were introduced. One big positive was no Vince although the video tributes were kind of weak. The crowd was really good all night long – which was surprising considering they had to sit thru the Smackdown taping. So I give props to the Montreal fans.

I thought the opening segment was good to help set up the six man match later on. I never saw 15,000 people turn on one person so fast liked they turned on Edge – which is why he should still be champ – he is a great heel and Cena just sucked on the mic tonight. The fans were correct to chant boring at him - no love for Cena in Toronto OR Montreal.

Was that Shelton Benjamin? The last time I saw him he was on the back of a milk carton

Umaga/Kane – a commercial one minute into this match? UGHHH! This was a decent big man’s match although at times it looked like they were wrestling in slow motion. I liked how Kane used the chair at the end – they are doing a good job of building this feud up. The backstage stuff was good as well.

Flair/Johnny – Decent match – I guess this was just filler. Doesn’t really further anything – at least I hope not.

Six-pack challenge - Orton/Nitro/Masters – three of the worst people on the mic – EVER! Those three should never be allowed to speak on the same show. Very Good match with some cool spots although too many commercials. I liked how everyone had a chance to win - a little surprising that Nitro kept the belt.

Candice/Lita – Listening to the crowd get all over Lita was a lot more interesting than this match. Predictable Mickie run-in although shocking that Candice actually got a pinfall. I think this is the first time I have ever saw her get a singles win. I guess this justifies having Mickie vs. Lita at the upcoming Mexico house shows and it continues the Mickie turn to a face.

Women’s Title – I was so happy that Trish won her match on Sunday and retired as the women’s champ. It’s a great ending to a great career! I have read on the OVW recap on this site that there are several women who are ready to join the main rosters – call them up. They should give each brand their own championship - then at one of the big four ppv’s they should hold a unification match. This would give the winner some credibility and allow her to defend on both shows. Also this would give Trish a feud waiting for her if she ever decides to come back since she can claim to be the real champ.

Six Man Tag match – An HBK chant in Montreal – I never would have thought I would have heard that. Decent match – I wasn’t expecting DX to lose this week. Nothing shocking and nothing furthered in the Cena/Edge feud. Should be interesting to see who steps up to challenge DX next and who will challenge Cena next.
