A ruckus OVW crowd packed the historic HotPoint Davis Arena in Louisville, Kentucky for another episode of OVW Rise that promised not only the continuation of last week’s Revolution drama, but also saw every single title put on the line!
Additionally, there is renewed hope in OVW for the first time in a long time it seems, as OVW’s Board of Directors has officially launched an investigation into Doug Basham and his alleged abuses of power. Until then, however, Basham seems hell-bent on reminding everyone that he’s still in charge, putting various stars in precarious and dangerous positions last week, and even reversed Beaches N Cream’s Tag Team Title victory to keep the Championships on Revolution’s AJZ and McKenzie.
There’s still much to look forward to this week as the Women’s Division heats up with the likes of J-Rod Versus Angelica Risk for the Women’s Championship, while the Tag Team and OVW Heavyweight Championship title pictures have nearly reached their breaking points before Halloween Hell Night. So if you didn’t have time to catch the show, sit back, relax, and read everything you need to know about Rise 1313 below!

Match 1: Angelica Risk Vs. J-Rod (C)
Angelica Risk kicked off OVW Rise with arguably the biggest match of her career as she challenged Revolution’s J-Rod for the Women’s Championship. Right out of the gate, J-Rod used her size and strength to wear her challenger down, hitting a Bodyslam early in the match followed by an impressive Beil Throw shortly after. Risk finally created some separation, hitting a Hurricanrana off the apron to the outside that sent the champ face-first into the ring steps.
Risk continued punishing J-Rod on the outside, inflicting some serious damage before being caught out of mid-air with a Fallaway Slam. From there, J-Rod pummeled Risk, who fought back on numerous occasions and looked amazing in this bout despite an ultimate loss. Risk gave J-Rod her toughest challenge in OVW by far, even coming within seconds of winning the title after hitting J-Rod with a 619 and Springboard Tornado DDT, but fell short after a Spear nearly cut her in half.
The ending didn’t come without controversy, however, as Risk’s shoulders were clearly up at two.
Result: J-Rod (C) DEFEATS Angelica Risk
Segment: Doug Basham Calls Out EC3
Basham strolled down the entrance ramp to a chorus of boos before taking responsibility for OVW’s skyrocketing ratings. He then called out EC3, the OVW National Heavyweight Champion, placing a $10,000 bounty on his head and promised to reward anyone who helped bring the title to Revolution.
Just then, Will Austin emerged, claiming that he was the best in the locker room and promised Basham that he’d defeat EC3 for the title. Shortly after, he was interrupted by Tony Evans who entered his name into the running. As the two stared each other down, Jay Dinero attacked Austin from behind. An inspired Basham made a Fatal Fourway match official for this November, hoping that Evans, Dinero, or even Austin will dethrone EC3.
Match 2: Hollyhood Haley J Vs. Freya The Slaya
With a little more clarity surrounding the Women’s Title picture after J-Rod’s defeat of Risk earlier in the night, both Haley J and Freya The Slaya looked to prove why they should be next in line. Before the bell even rang, Haley was all over Freya, but quickly suffered a Big Boot at the hands of her stronger opponent.
Haley fought back, hitting a Shining Wizard and running knee for a two-count before sending Freya out of the ring. As Freya recovered on the outside, J-Rod hit her with a Spear out of nowhere, allowing Haley J to pick up the win with a Superkick.
Result: Hollyhood Haley J DEFEATS Freya The Slaya
Segment: Kal Herro and the OVW roster call out Revolution
A fired-up Kal Herro made his way to the ring, calling out Doug Basham’s abuses of power, reminding him that he’s currently under investigation by the OVW Board of Directors. He also reminded everyone that he’s not the only one living under Basham’s tyranny, inviting Cash Flo to the ring who echoed Herro’s sentiment. Just then, Beaches N Cream came to the ring, reminding everyone that they too, have had titles stolen from them by Revolution. With all the injustice being talked about in the ring, it was only natural that Super-Z joined the squad, calling out Revolution for their wrongdoings.
With that, Doug Basham heard enough, making excuses for every one of his abuses of power before the rest of Revolution joined him in the ring. Feeling more secure, Basham announced that he’d put each title on the line tonight in Halloween Hell Night-style matches just to appease the rest of the roster. Suddenly, a random generator popped up on the video screen, announcing Super-Z Vs. Mount Kadeem for the OVW Heavyweight Championship in a Bull Rope Match, starting now.
Match 3: Mount Kadeem (C) Vs. Super-Z (Bull Rope Match for the OVW Heavyweight Championship
As expected, being tied to former NFL player and real-life giant, Mount Kadeem comes with its disadvantages. Super-Z experienced them first-hand as Kadeem pulled his challenger in as the bell rang for a huge clothesline. The high-flyer withstood the initial attack, using his speed to tie Kadeem’s legs up with the rope before knocking the Champ down with a Superman punch.
Kadeem recovered quickly though, throwing Super-Z in the air like a doll before hitting a thunderous Samoan Drop and touching all four corners for a quick victory.
Result: Mount Kadeem (C) DEFEATS Super-Z
Match 4: Luscious Lawrence Vs. Tony Gunn (C) (Falls Count Anywhere Match for the OVW Media Championship)
The Halloween Hell Night generator landed on Tony Gunn versus Luscious Lawrence for the OVW Media Championship in a Falls Count Anywhere Match, giving fans another little taste of what Halloween Hell Night may look like. As the match began, Lawrence took the fight straight to Gunn, beating him outside the ring as the rest of the roster and Revolution looked on.
He continued his hot start, hitting two Axe Handles from the top rope with his metal whipped cream can before force-feeding Gunn some cream much to the delight of the fans. Gunn showed off a bit of his resilience, fighting back with a Cannonball onto a steel chair.
The two went back and forth, hitting each other with steel trash cans, Sharpshooters, and stiff shots before the fight migrated onto the entrance ramp. Despite taking a Fame-Asser onto Legos on the outside, Gunn was able to fight back, hitting a Superkick and low-blow for the win.
Result: Tony Gunn (C) DEFEATS Luscious Lawrence
Match 5: Cash Flo Vs. Star Rider (C) (Tables Match for the OVW Rush Division Championship)
A visibly nervous Star Rider was forced to defend his championship against the red-hot, multi-time OVW Heavyweight Champion, Cash Flo after the Halloween Hell Night generator picked this match. For the first few minutes of the match, Star Rider just tried his best to survive the onslaught of Cash Flo, who exerted his size and strength over the high-flyer with ease. Star Rider hung in there, though, eating a Spinning Powerbomb, Fallaway Slam, and delayed Vertical Suplex before Cash Flo exited the ring for a table.
On the outside, Star Rider was able to momentarily avoid the table, but not the beating as Cash Flo continued his punishment. Every time the Champ built a sliver of momentum, he was chopped back down to size by Cash Flo.
As the match progressed, the table was brought into play again, this time propped up inside the corner of the ring. The two traded shots, each one just moments from sending the other through the table before Cash Flo slowed the pace down again with a Frog Splash off the top rope.
With a moment to recover, the big man set another table up on the outside. As Flo climbed back into the ring, Star Rider knocked him off with a Dropkick, shockingly sending Cash Flo through the table. Though relatively unphased, Cash Flo had lost fair and square.
Result: Star Rider (C) DEFEATS Cash Flo
Match 6: Kal Herro and Omar Amir Vs. AJZ and Dalton McKenzie (Texas Tornado Match for the OVW Tag Team Championships)
The Halloween Hell Night generator cooked up one hell of a main event as Herro and Amir took on The Revolution in a Texas Tornado Match for the OVW Tag Team Championships. As expected, with four men legal all at once, the action was fast and furious. As the match unfolded, Herro and Amir gained a formidable lead, clearly making Basham and the rest of Revolution nervous on the outside. The challengers’ chemistry was undeniable, each taking responsibility for an opponent and going to work; Amir even beat AJZ on the outside with a toilet plunger.
In the blink of an eye though, the tables turned, and Revolution’s AJZ and McKenzie found themselves on top. They hit a variety of Suplexes including Germans, Snaps, and even a Three Amigos which almost ended the match before the challengers caught McKenzie on the top rope for a Double Superplex, giving Revolution a taste of their own medicine.
The back-and-forth contest continued until Revolution wedged Herro’s head inside a steel chair. Threatening career-altering damage, Jack Vaughn emerged from backstage to make the save, allowing Kal to hit the FPK followed by Amir’s Spinebuster to capture the OVW Tag Team Championships.
Result: Kal Herro and Omar Amir (C) DEFEAT AJZ and Dalton McKenzie of Revolution to become the NEW OVW Tag Team Champions
Overall:
This week’s OVW Rise was one of my favorite episodes of all time, but regardless of my personal opinion, any fan should check out a show where every single title is on the line.
The night started off hot with Angelica Risk Vs. J-Rod in an advertised OVW Women’s Championship match, but before the night was over, we saw four more surprise championship matches, all with wild stipulations. No exaggeration, this episode of Rise was a can’t-miss.
From the Tables Match to the Bullrope Match to the Falls Count Anywhere Match, the title matchups were equally as thrilling as they were crushing as Revolution held on to almost all of their gold. The real bright spot in the show came when the unexpected team of Kal Herro and Omar Amir beat AJZ and Dalton McKenzie for the OVW Tag Team Titles, giving the rest of the OVW roster a bit of leverage against the entirety of Revolution. Still though, Mount Kadeem, Star Rider, and Tony Gunn all walked away with momentous victories.
