An excited group of OVW fans filled the historic HotPoint Davis Arena in Louisville, Kentucky to the brim for another episode of OVW Rise just one week before Halloween Hell Night.
We got a small taste of what Halloween Hell Night might look like after last week’s episode of Rise which saw each member of Revolution defend their title in a Halloween Hell Night-generated match; a random generator that paired two wrestlers up in a mystery stipulation. Last week, we saw a Falls Count Anywhere match, a Bull Rope match, and even a tables match, and next week promises to be even scarier (no pun intended).
Tonight, however, the OVW faithful can expect two things: Revolution to desperately try and regain the only piece of gold missing from their faction- the OVW Tag Team titles which were won last week by Omar Amir and Kal Herro, and Doug Basham to make life a living hell for everyone on the OVW roster before the Board of Directors finishes their investigation into his abuse of power.
So if you didn’t have time to watch the show, sit back, relax, and read everything you need to know about Halloween Hell Night.

Match 1: Drew Hernandez Vs. Donovan Cecil
Drew Hernandez returned to an OVW ring for the first time in more than two years to take on The Mammoth, Donovan Cecil. After leaving to make a name for himself on the independent circuit around the country, Hernandez looked to remind everyone why he is a former OVW TV Champion against a fellow big man in Cecil.
Both athletes tried to use their size to their advantage, but it was Cecil who eventually took control with a ring-shaking Bodyslam. Although Hernandez rocked The Mammoth a couple of times throughout the match with thunderous strikes of his own, Cecil was able to pick up the quick victory with a Superkick followed by an F-5.
Result: Donovan Cecil DEFEATS Drew Hernandez
Match 2: Jay Dinero Vs. Will Austin
Jay Dinero squared off against Will Austin in the second match of the night, using his size advantage to deliver ring-shifting Irish Whips to Austin to seize control early on. He continued his punishment, shrugging off Austin’s attempts to cut him down to size, delivering a huge Backbody Drop and Brainbuster to the former Rush Division Champion.
For what seemed like the first time, the OVW fans chanted for Jay Dinero, their common dislike for Will Austin bounding them together; but Austin responded with two beautiful Suicide Dives to turn the tables. The two men went back and forth, taking their best shots with a thunderous Sidewalk Slam from Dinero and a Springboard Corkscrew Crossbody from Austin.
In the end, both men tried winning with underhanded tactics. Dinero tried using his glove which forced the referee to confiscate it and turn his head. With the referee distracted, Austin hit Dinero with a low blow for a cheap victory. After the match, EC3 appeared via video and promised that he’d be back soon and that nobody could take his title.
Result: Will Austin DEFEATS Jay Dinero
Match 3: Vipress Vs. Hollyhood Haley J
Fan-favorite and former Women’s Champion Haley J looked to continue building momentum as she took on the Vipress in what promised to be a competitive bout. Just seconds into the match, Hollyhood found herself in firm control after hitting a hanging Neckbreaker into the middle rope followed by running knees to the back of Vipress’ head. Vipress fought back, however, hitting a standing Michinoku Driver to even the odds.
Despite suffering a Shotgun Dropkick and a Saito Suplex that almost put her down for the count, Haley J fought back, hitting a Curbstomp for the hard-fought victory.
Result: Hollyhood Haley J DEFEATS Vipress
Match 4: Dayami Ho Vs. J-Rod (C) (W/ Shannon The Dude)
Looking to make a name for herself in OVW, Lucha Libre superstar Dayami Ho hoped to spoil J-Rod’s night as Shannon the Dude accompanied his new and ever-dominant client to the ring. As the match began, Ho seemed to catch the champ off guard with her unorthodox and high-flying offense, hitting multiple unique Arm Drags that left J-Rod reeling. Revolution’s poster-girl didn’t stay down for long though, slamming Ho face first to stop her momentum.
Ho withstood J-Rod’s powerful offense, even mounting a short-lived comeback that included a highlight-worthy Enziguri, but J-Rod was just too much for the high-flyer to handle, eventually nailing her with a Spear like all her past opponents for the win. After the match, Freya The Slaya attempted to confront J-Rod, but suffered the same fate in the form of another Spear.
Result: J-Rod (C) DEFEATS Dayami Ho
Match 5: Carson Drake Vs. Dustin Jackson
Carson Drake and Dustin Jackson couldn’t wait to get their hands on each other in the fifth match of the night, but it was Drake who did most of the beating early on after Jackson missed a Rolling Senton onto the outside. Carson targeted the injured back, hitting Back Breakers, Bodyslams, and knees to the spine to wear Jackson down.
The rising star in Jackson didn’t stay down for long though, connecting with a Superkick to even things up. As Jackson climbed to the top rope, Drake threw him down, but Dustin was able to hang on the entire time, surprising Drake with a roll-up victory.
Result: Dustin Jackson DEFEATS Carson Drake
Match 6: Sophia Rose Vs. Holidead
Sophia Rose and Holidead looked to climb further up the OVW mountain in a match that promised to test both women’s limits in the ring. From the opening bell, Holidead looked to play mind games with Sophia, even licking her as the two locked up. This did nothing but anger Rose though, who hit a Tilt-a-Whirl Headscissors to gain a momentary lead.
Holidead fought back, tripping Rose on the apron before nailing her with a Leg Drop and a Spinebuster that could’ve ended the match if it wasn’t for Rose’s resilience. Eventually, one-half of America’s Sweethearts was able to send her creepy counterpart into the ring post, giving her enough time to hit her picture-perfect Moonsault for the big win.
Result: Sophia Rose DEFEATS Holidead
Match 7: Jota Peso Vs. Star Rider (C)
Star Rider looked to prove that he belongs in Revolution, as well as deserves the OVW Rush Division Championship by defeating Jota Peso in the seventh match of the night with Shannon The Dude’s help, but as the match began, Jota Peso had Star Rider scouted at every turn. After a few minutes of utter domination from Peso, Shannon The Dude provided Star Rider with the distraction he needed to avoid Peso’s 450 Splash and hit a Shotgun Dropkick of his own for the victory.
Result: Star Rider (C) DEFEATS Jota Peso
Segment: Doug Basham Promo
When OVW returned from break, Basham was standing in the ring, yet again taking credit for OVW’s spike in ratings before calling out journalist Zachary Pittman. Luckily for Pittman, Super-Z came to the rescue, accepting a match against Leo Fox in his place.
Match 8: Super-Z Vs. Leo Fox (W/ Shannon The Dude)
Right out of the gate, Leo Fox used his size and strength to dominate Super-Z, hitting a Fallaway Slam before trying to take off Super-Z’s mask to set the tone early. The superhero would have none of it, though, fighting back with a Superman punch and a Bulldog before climbing to the top rope for his next attack.
Revolution played the numbers game to a tee, allowing Shannon The Dude to pull Super-Z off the top rope while Basham distracted the ref. Just then, Adam Revolver appeared on screen, sending a message to his former best friend in Shannon The Dude by destroying Shannon’s title with a sledgehammer before throwing it away. The distraction was enough for Super-Z to give Fox a taste of his own medicine, rolling him up for the surprise victory.
Result: Super-Z DEFEATS Leo Fox
Match 9: Beaches N Cream and Kal Herro (C) Vs. Dalton McKenzie, AJZ, and Tony Gunn
Beaches N Cream and Kal Herro started off the six-man tag main event hot, working like a well-oiled machine against their Revolution counterparts. It wasn’t until Revolution played the all-too-familiar numbers game that AJZ, McKenzie, and Gunn gained the upper hand. The three took turns isolating Herro, punishing him with Sitout Bodyslams, ear-ringing chops, and more before Herro countered a back Suplex with a backflip to make the much-needed tag to Amir.
Amir, however, had no better luck than Herro, who suffered the underhanded tactics of Revolution followed by a German Suplex at the hands of AJZ. Before the situation became too dire, Amir was able to create a moment of separation to tag Herro back in.
Revolution continued punishing Herro, almost ending the match numerous times, but Herro’s heart kept him in the match. Finally, The Fanny Pack Kid crawled through Gunn’s legs to tag in a fresh Luscious Lawrence who immediately cleared the ring.
Just then, Basham called his reinforcements to the ring; first Star Rider who met a Scoop Slam at the hands of Lawrence, followed by Mount Kadeem who was taken out by an airborne Amir out of nowhere from the top rope. With bodies everywhere, Herro tagged himself in, hitting a Springboard Sunset Flip for the roll-up victory, besting Revolution two weeks in a row.
Suddenly, Basham got into the ring, throwing his version of a temper tantrum and demanding that the match be restarted. At that moment, Cash Flo emerged, delivering the challenge of a lifetime to Doug Basham: Cash Flo versus any person of Basham’s choosing, but if Cash Flo wins, Basham and Flo must fight for five minutes. Without revealing who he had in mind, Basham accepted the challenge before Revolution and the rest of the locker room starred each other down to close out the show.
Result: Beaches N Cream and Kal Herro (C) DEFEAT AJZ, Dalton McKenzie, and Tony Gunn
Overall:
Another week, another amazing episode of OVW Rise. What else is new?
First things first, the Women’s division continues to one-up itself every week, with three stellar matches that saw Sophia Rose, J-Rod, and Hollyhood Haley J all emerge victorious respectively. Additionally, the tension between Freya The Slaya and J-Rod has officially reached a boiling point and we shouldn’t have to wait long to see those two slug it out for the title.
Additionally, I’m not sure what’s crazier: Cash Flo’s challenge to face any man of Doug Basham’s choosing with a five-minute match with Basham should he win, or the leader of Revolution’s willingness to accept the challenge. It just goes to show how clouded Basham’s judgment is by his ego as he continues to take credit for OVW’s spike in ratings.
In all, I for one am super excited for Halloween Hell Night, particularly because it comes at the perfect time. Revolution has an iron-clad grasp on almost the entire company, but there are some bright spots such as Beaches N Cream and Kal Herro, the rise of stars like Dustin Jackson, and the debut of stars like Dayami Ho, that will greatly benefit from the ultimate equalizer that is the Halloween Hell Night generator. Given all the chaos happening in OVW as the show went off the air, let’s hope the Davis Arena is still standing next Thursday.
