After weeks of eerie buildup, hundreds of OVW fans packed the legendary HotPoint Davis Arena in Louisville, Kentucky to the brim for another episode of OVW Rise. But Thursday’s episode of Rise promises to be all but routine, as Halloween Hell Night is officially upon us.
We got a preview of what Halloween Hell Night would look like two weeks ago when each member of Revolution defended their title in a Halloween Hell Night-generated match; a random generator that paired two wrestlers up in a mystery stipulation. We saw a Falls Count Anywhere match, a Bull Rope match, and even a tables match- and this week’s episode should only be an extension of that madness.
Between Revolution’s chokehold on the roster, title pictures reaching a boiling point, and unpredictable matchups and stipulations, Halloween Hell Night is another can’t-miss installment of OVW.
So if you didn’t have time to watch the show, sit back, relax, and read everything you need to know about Halloween Hell Night.

Match 1: Freya The Slaya Vs. J-Rod (C) (Trick-Or-Street Fight)
Before either competitor was chosen, Doug Basham emerged to welcome everyone to Halloween Hell Night and remind fans that nobody in the back knows when they will wrestle, who they will wrestle, or under what stipulation. Just then, the first “Spin The Wheel, Make A Deal” match was selected: Freya The Slaya versus J-Rod in a Trick-Or-Street Fight. (Non-title match)
The two traded control early on with the fight spilling to the outside, but J-Rod found herself on top after hitting the Queen of the North with the ring bell. The lead was short-lived, as Freya fought back with a street sign before the two traded blows back and forth with various foreign objects including a crutch, a trash can lid, and a pizza pan.
Deep into the match, Freya turned the tides, from J-Rod’s control with a Bodyslam onto a pile of Legos before retrieving a table from the outside. Freya finished off the job, delivering a Chokeslam to the champion onto the table before delivering the leg drop on the table to seal the deal and deliver J-Rod her first loss in OVW.
Result: Freya The Slaya DEFEATS J-Rod (C)
Match 2: Super-Z Vs. Star Rider (C) (Blindfold Match)
The second match of the night, and mysteriously another Revolution versus rival match, saw two of OVW’s premiere high-flyers square off in a non-title bout. The catch: We were the only ones to see it as both men were blindfolded.
Before the match began, Star Rider jumped Super-Z who already had his blindfold on, allowing him to lock in an Armbar before comfortably putting his own mask on. Luckily for Super-Z, the two collided once they were finally both blindfolded, limiting the punishment before the two wandered around the ring searching for one another.
Eventually, Star Rider took a brief peek through his blindfold without the referee seeing, allowing him to hit Super-Z below the belt for the cheap victory.
Result: Star Rider DEFEATS Super-Z
Match 3: EC3 (C) Vs. Leo Fox (Lumberjack Strap Match)
EC3 made his much-anticipated return to the Davis Arena and was greeted by one of his harshest challenges in recent memory- Revolution’s Leo Fox in a Lumberjack Strap Match. Of course, each lumberjack was incentivized by $1000 awarded to the wrestler who delivered the most strap hits on EC3. (The lumberjacks are each armed with a strap, the wrestlers are not tied together)
Despite Revolution’s number’s game and constant whipping of their straps anytime the National Heavyweight Champion got close to the ropes, EC3 managed to hold his own against Fox’s fast start. The two spilled to the outside where the lumberjacks viciously beat down EC3 with their straps, allowing Fox to firmly gain the upper hand.
Fox punished EC3 with his size and strength, highlighted by a beautiful T-bone Suplex and plenty of lashings from the outside. Suddenly, Tony Evans, Will Austin, and Jay Dinero all entered the ring, arguing about who should take Basham’s $1000 prize home. With everyone distracted, EC3 gave the lumberjacks a taste of their own medicine, whipping them out of the ring before punching Fox with a strap-wrapped hand for the win.
Result: EC3 (C) DEFEATS Leo Fox
Match 4: Hollyhood Haley-J Vs. Holidead (Casket Match)
In a match only appropriate on Halloween, Haley J and Holidead battled each other in a casket match, with Holidead jumping Haley J before the bell rang to gain control early. Holidead kept her foot on the gas, hitting Hollyhood with a brutal Spinebuster early on before Suplexing J onto the closed casket. J fought back after the horrific landing, hitting a Cannonball off the edge of the casket to even the odds.
Holidead recovered quickly though, finding herself right back on the attack. She delivered more offense to J, hanging her up in the ropes, hitting her with a Spinning STO, delivering stiff shots, and even a World’s Strongest Slam onto the casket. Despite the insane barrage of punishment, J’s resilience kept her in the fight, hitting a reverse Kneeteora and Holidead with a sock-o-rocks to the face to close her in the casket for the win.
Result: Hollyhood Haley-J DEFEATS Holidead
Segment: Doug Basham Gives Adam Revolver His Wish
Doug Basham invited Adam Revolver out to the ring before telling him he’d give him a match with Shannon The Dude with one caveat: Revolver must be handcuffed. Once handcuffed with one arm between his legs, Shannon emerged to beat down a defenseless Revolver. Adam fought back though, delivering shots to Shannon The Dude before The Dude scurried away.
Match 5: Kal Herro and Omar Amir (C) Vs. The Blockbusters (Revolution Rules Match) (Tag Team Championship)
Our main event of the night saw Kal Herro and Omar Amir defend their tag team titles against The Blockbusters, begging the question of The Blockbusters’ allegiance to Revolution. In addition to the titles being surprisingly on the line, the match was declared a “Revolution Rules” match by the “random” generator.
Kal and Amir started off the match on fire, working like a well-oiled machine and introducing The Blockbusters to Rise. After only a few minutes, Herro hit a textbook Dropkick, a Back Body Drop, and a Fanny Pack Knee to seemingly make quick work of his opponents before Doug interrupted the count, announcing the match as a 2 out of 3 falls match as part of “Revolution Rules.”
The distraction was enough to not only prevent the pin, but allow Blockbusters a moment to recover and beat down the unexpecting Herro. From there, the Blockbusters displayed some impressive tandem offense, showing everyone why they belonged on the OVW stage before the fresh man in Amir began fighting back. Just as he too gained formidable momentum, Doug paused the match, turning it into a handicap match and bringing out the rest of the members of Revolution.
With the addition of AJZ and Star Rider, the match became a 4 on 2 beatdown just as Doug had intended. Just as it looked like Revolution had the match in the bag, Amir was able to clear the ring in a last-ditch effort before tagging in his partner in Herro. Still outnumbered, Luscious Lawrence emerged with a steel chair in hand to help even the odds, but was hit below the belt from behind by Basham.
Suddenly, Kal and Basham found themselves alone in the ring, a moment Herro had been dreaming of for months. He shoved Basham to the ground before grabbing a microphone and activating the Halloween Hell Night generator with Basham’s “Spin the wheel, make a deal” catchphrase, seemingly setting Basham up for a Chained Carnage Match against Cash Flo this Saturday.
With Herro distracted, Tony Gunn delivered a Kill Shot from behind, enabling The Blockbusters to win the Tag Team Championships in the first night in OVW. After the match, Mount Kadeem beat down a defenseless Amir, Lawrence, and Herro, leaving Revolution standing tall to close out the show.
Result: The Blockbusters DEFEAT Omar Amir and Kal Herro
Overall:
Halloween Hell Night was good for two groups of people: OVW fans because the show was simply amazing, but also Revolution as they now possess all the gold once again.
Besides J-Rod’s first-ever loss in OVW which came at the hands of Freya The Slaya in the night's opening match, the night couldn’t have gone better for Revolution. They grew their stable, adding new Tag Team Champions in The Blockbusters, and left their main opposition reeling at all turns (Kal Herro, Beaches N Cream, Super-Z, Freya The Slaya, and now even EC3), while simultaneously delivering a great show.
The range of stipulations, from Haley J’s Casket Match victory to the Trick-or-Street Fight to the Lumberjack Strap Match, made this week’s OVW Rise a must-see. While we hoped Halloween Hell Night would diffuse some of the tension within the OVW locker room, it only turned up the heat as each title picture and battle to get there grows seemingly more intense every week.
