PROGRESS Wrestling paid a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Meiko Satomura at Chapter 177: My Own Destiny, presenting her with a commemorative championship belt to honour her extraordinary contributions to professional wrestling.
Satomura, a former PROGRESS Women’s Champion, wrestled her last ever single’s match in the UK at the Electric Ballroom in London, against Rhio, one of the hottest independent stars in the world today, in a main event she personally requested.
The Japanese icon hand-picked Rhio as her final UK singles opponent, recognising her incredible 434-day reign as PROGRESS Women’s Champion and the legacy she is building for the next generation.
With a legendary career spanning WCW, WWE, Sendai Girls and more, Satomura will officially retire in April, leaving behind an indelible mark on the wrestling world.
As part of her farewell, PROGRESS Wrestling co-owner Lee McAteer surprised her backstage alongside Kal Butt and Al Roland with a classic PROGRESS Women’s World Championship belt to commemorate her legacy in PROGRESS and beyond.
The touching moment is EXCLUSIVE on the Director's Cut of Chapter 177: My Own Destiny on DEMAND PROGRESS PLUS which will be available this Friday.
Speaking about the presentation, McAteer said: “On behalf of PROGRESS management, talent, and fans, we presented Meiko with the classic PROGRESS Women's World Championship to thank her for her contributions to professional wrestling.”
The emotional tribute followed a beautiful in-ring farewell, where the PROGRESS locker room, including NJPW’s Drilla Moloney, presented Satomura with bouquets of flowers as streamers filled the ring.
The PROGRESS faithful gave her a standing ovation, showing their appreciation for everything she has given to the sport.
Reflecting on the night, Meiko Satomura shared her gratitude, saying: “Thank you so much, PROGRESS. It’s been six years since I first joined, and I had such a great experience in the UK. It was a great experience to have everyone celebrate me at the end, and to fight Rhio was an honour.”
The unforgettable match is available now on Triller TV+ with a Director’s Cut releasing this Friday on DEMAND PROGRESS PLUS.
