RVD AND HOLLY STEAL THE SHOW - FIRST BATCH OF READER FEEDBACK TO ECW

By PWInsiderXtra Readers on 9/27/2006 10:55 AM
I thought it wasn't bad tonight but I was very surprised and upset at the lack of matches. There was only the extreme rules match and the main event. I'm not counting the catfight because that was nothing. What happened to the three and four matches on the show this week?

I thought the Holly/RVD match was awesome. Could be a match of the month contender. I really wasn't sure who was going to win and that gash on Holly's back was gruesome with blood pouring out of it. It got a lot of time so I was happy about that. I loved all the near falls. ECW needs more matches like this.

The Punk/Kelly/Knox segment was well-done. Kelly is still a bad actress and doesn't have much screen presence but she's young and inexperienced. Hopefully she'll improve.

I now officially dislike Big Show as champion. I used to be indifferent to it before but now I dislike it. Until we get an actual person who can move in the ring and do other things besides headbutts and chops, the main event will continue to be boring and uneventful with Big Show as champ. I can't wait until he loses the belt but it seems like it won't be for awhile. I just want to see a good wrestling match for the belt once, nut a lumbering big fool like Big Show.

Overall, I thought it was decent, the minuses being the lack of matches and Big Show. The opening match really carried the show. ECW is still my must-see show every week.

Here is my view on this week ECW show.

- JR on the show? He getting beat up tonight.

- Nice to see Sandman and JR share a beer.

- Bischoff book. Sorry Eric if you were not in WWE it might be a better book.

- Extreme Strip Poker boy that sound so dumb.

Match 1 Extreme Rules - Hardcore Holly vs. RVD

- Great Match I really enjoyed this.

- Man Holly back look like it cut up really bad. I hope he be ok given his past problems with infection.

- Holly impressed the hell of me.

- CM Punk is talking about wants to RVD Sabu Sandman & Show. I like to see this set of matches.

- Kelly Kelly (So dumb they named her twice) want to play cards with Punk. Man she is so dumb.

- Knox you got punked (bad pun but it true).

- Cena a good kisser. Oh good I just need to know that on a wrestling show.

Match 2 Extreme Cat Fight: Ariel with Kevin Thorn vs. Francine.

- Short but I enjoy it anyway.

- Balls still a swinging chairman of ECW.

- Big Show promo - Ok not great but passable.

- Dupree most extreme gimmick I rather see him wrestle.

Main Event ECW World Champion Big Show vs. The Sandman - Singapore Cane is legal

- Solid match Sandman is looking really good.

- Show win with Striker help make sense.

Final Grade A-

2 Solid match and a couple of good promos. ECW will continue to progress nicely if they keep doing show like this.

See you in 7.

ECW had another solid show. The brand looks like it is starting to become more comfortable with the time allotted. I am looking forward to the upcoming ECW Pay Per View. It seems like the wrestlers involved in the ECW project are truly dedicated to their craft.

The thing that caught my attention most was the Bob Holly versus Rob Van Dam match. It was extremely brutal, to say the least. That gash on Bob Holly’s back gave new meaning to his moniker Hardcore Holly. It was ridiculous to watch him take a vertical suplex slam on the chair after he had been ripped open. It was just pure guts to finish the match after being sliced like that. Rob Van Dam should also be given accolades for the match as well. The guy shows everyone why he is Mr. Pay Per View, because every RVD match is worth paying money to see.

This week's episode of ECW on Sci Fi was one of the best weekly wrestling shows I've seen in awhile. This week's episode totally blew Raw out of the water; there's just no comparison.

Even though there were only two actual matches, and an extreme catfight, the show was so well paced that it hardly mattered at all. One of the things that ECW does that makes it different, and better, than the other two WWE brands are the short, to the point backstage promos. It allows the workers to make their points without wasting time. The Bob Holly vs. RVD match was very good, and Holly deserves a lot of respect for continuing to work and take bumps with that nasty gash on his back. That table spot looked wicked, and both men really seemed to be working hard to put on a great match. Holly deserved the chant he got from the crowd because he could have easily asked for the match to be stopped after taking that cut.

The extreme catfight did a pretty good job of building the feud between Kevin Thorn and Balls Mahoney, plus it allowed Francine to get some more face time on television. I hope they continue to build this feud and develop these characters. The main event was a solid match; Sandman isn't particularly known for his in-ring work, so allowing him to use the cane made some sense from that standpoint. It was also smart booking to have Matt Striker come out and steal the cane without actually interfering in the match. The Big Show came out of the match looking strong, which was important after the Hell in a Cell match. The loss didn't hurt Sandman, and it helped continue the Sandman/Striker feud.

The promos and backstage segments were well done and didn't slow the show down. The opening segment with JR and Sandman was a good way to get the hometown pop for JR and give Sandman something of a rub, even if he didn't necessarily need it. CM Punk delivered another very good promo, and he has future star written all over him. Mike Knox doesn't seem to have the same charisma as Punk, but their feud could be intriguing. The video package for Sandman was well done as well. The only segment I didn't care for was the Rene Dupree promo, but it was short, so it really didn't hurt the show.

ECW is definitely the most entertaining wrestling show on television right now. Character development and feuds are really well done, and the show is well paced every week. This is the one show every week that rarely disappoints.
