MIAMI, FLORIDA – BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame Matchmaker, Mel Valenzuela, announced today that a matchup between the sons of two former world boxing champions will be featured on the BKB 41 Brawl in Duval II card on May 31 in Jacksonville, Florida. Robert Duran, Jr., son of former four-division champion Roberto Duran, will take on Rolando Dy, son of former WBC Super Featherweight champion Rolando Navarrete.
Duran, a veteran of sixteen professional boxing matches, is 2-1 in his young bare knuckle career and currently ranked fourth in the BKB Super Welterweight rankings. Dy, a UFC veteran and former UAE Warriors Featherweight champion is 3-1 in bare knuckle and the fifth-ranked BKB Super Welterweight.
Said Valenzuela, “Duran-Dy by itself is as evenly matched a bare knuckle fight as you'll see. Both of these guys have proven that they can throw and take a shot. Having the added prestige of their respected bloodlines just adds to the excitement. Either someone’s getting dropped early, or this one’s going to be a five-round bloody slugfest. I don’t see any in-between.”
Headlining the BKB 41 will be two of the best pound-for-pound bare knuckle fighters in the world in undefeated Heavyweight champion Gustavo “The Cuban Assassin” Trujillo and 9-2 Super Cruiserweight Champion Marko Martinjak of Croatia. Trujillo will look to go 8-0 when he defends his title against the number one contender, Poland’s undefeated Kamil Sokolowski. Martinjak returns stateside to defend his BKB Super Cruiserweight championship against 5-0 number one contender, Yordan Fuentes. Also on the card will be the returns to action of former BKB champions Brandon Birr, DJ Linderman and Jose Fernandez. Tickets are on sale now at bkbtickets.com/bkb41.
In the past two years, BKB (originally BYB) has purchased the UK-based BKB, the world’s oldest professional bare knuckle boxing company, and in doing so merged the organizations to create the largest bare knuckle boxing company in the world in terms of roster, library and distribution; ushered in ethical and legalized gambling to the sport; acquired the rights to the historic and prestigious Police Gazette Diamond Belt which now serves as the Bare Knuckle Boxing World Championship; and brought bare knuckle boxing to lineal television in the United States with the recent deal with VICE TV.
