Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier will fight former UFC Featherweight Champion and current BMF Champion Max Holloway for the BMF Championship in the main event of UFC 318, which will also serve as Poirier’s retirement fight.
Poirier announced the news himself during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
Poirier (30-9-0-1NC) is a former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion, defeating Holloway is their second meeting at UFC 236 in April of 2019. Poirier and Holloway met for the first time at UFC 143 in February of 2012, defeating him by first round submission. Poirier has won two of his last five in the UFC, with those wins coming over Michael Chandler and Benoit St. Denis.
Holloway (26-8-0) is making his first defense of the BMF Championship, defeating former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje to win the gold at UFC 300. Holloway is a former UFC Featherweight Champion, but he has also lost his last three opportunities to win the gold back. Holloway has won two of his last three main event fights in the UFC, with those wins coming over Arnold Allen and Chan Sung Jung.
UFC 318 takes place on Saturday, July 19 from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana with Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier headlining. PWInsiderXtra is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
