TUF CHAMPION DIEGO SANCHEZ REACHES PLEA AGREEMENT ON GUN CHARGES

By David Tees on 2/23/2026 6:33 PM

TUF Season 1 Champion Diego Sanchez has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in New Mexico on gun charges stemming from an incident in July of 2025.

MMA Fighting reports that Sanchez “Sanchez submitted a plea and disposition agreement on Feb. 18 after pleading guilty to a charge of shooting at or from a motor vehicle (no great bodily harm, which is classified as a fourth-degree felony). Sanchez was also initially hit with a second charge for negligent use of a deadly weapon but that was dismissed as part of his plea agreement.”

Sanchez is expected to be sentenced on April 6, as a New Mexico judge will be handing the former UFC fighter his fate. Sanchez could be facing multiple years in jail because “A fourth-degree felony charge in New Mexico typically comes along with a maximum of up to 18 months in jail and/or up to a $5,000 fine but the penalties are more severe in this case because of the specifics related to firearms, which could lead up to six and a half years of incarceration” according to MMA Fighting.

The former UFC star was arrested this past July after he allegedly leaned out of a window of a moving car and fired a round from a gun while passing by a car accident. Police would follow the vehicle Sanchez was in and the fighter, who denied firing the shot, was arrested. Sanchez’s agent told MMA Fighting after the arrest that Sanchez had been dealing with personal issues and was working to get his life back on track.
