ANOTHER DULL WWE PPV - MORE SURVIVOR SERIES FEEDBACK

By PWInsiderXtra Readers on 11/27/2006 11:18 AM

The best part of the night was, by far, when Shawn Michaels began his match, superkicked Mike Knox and goes over to his team and casually asks, “who was that?”

Other than that, this show was extremely boring. It’s worth noting that throughout the entire night, only one heel won. And considering the post-match beat down that the heel (Mr. Kennedy) received afterwards, it’s hard to say that any face character lost last night. The whole night was a big yawn fest with only a few redeeming moments.

* Three Spirit Squad members losing to Ric Flair was expected, but it’s hard to really rationalize. Yes, Flair was great. But Ric Flair is able to be these men’s grandfather. Although Flair winning was supposed to generate a “feel good moment” for the Philadelphia fans to start the show off, it came off as really cheesy and extremely predictable.

* Chavo Guerrero vs.Chris Benoit was boring as well. Benoit was intense, as usual, but there wasn’t a memorable thing that happened throughout the match. Too much has been said about the “Eddie Guerrero Remembrance Storyline,” but the only thing I’ll contribute is that this has been going on for over the year. Find some way to finish this thing and let’s move on.

* Mickie James winning was fine, and the match was actually pretty good. At least Lita put in a lot of effort on her last match. However, the postmatch scene with Chad and JTG was by far the one of the highlights of the show. There was a lot of repetition and talking on top of one another, but the bar I was at loved every second of it. It was a memorable way for Lita to go out on.

* Watching Team RKO get swept was the low point of the night. Way to kill Edge and Randy Orton. I guess when they never mentioned that Randy Orton had been the sole survivor the last three years (beating Triple H once and beating Shawn Michaels twice) you knew that he wasn’t going to be going anywhere. Oh, and could you tell Triple H’s ego was bruised when they started a CM Punk chant?

* The First Blood match was OK. There was nothing overly exciting about it. MVP’s outfit fits his character. The match itself was just decent. The “excruciating chairshot” at the end wasn’t as impressive as everyone made it out to be in my opinion; his headed just ended up between the seat and the top of the chair. Good job, Mr. Kennedy, I suppose.

* I’ve seen John Cena FU the Big Show several times before. It’s no longer impressive. Test’s boot, however, was a nice move. Little Bastard coming in distratcting Kane was a nice little addition to the match. But the ECW competitors came and went, leaving a John Cena (who was boo’ed intensely for the first time in a while) to come out looking like a star. Which he clearly isn’t.

* Booker vs. Batista was the most boring match of the night. Batista’s top-rope shoulder block was nice. But the rest of the match was exactly what you would have expected. In fact, it was the same thing it always is. Jeez, Batista being the champion does nothing for Smackdown.

So a big waste of time is a good way of describing Survivor Series. Two new two-time champions later, I’m really glad I didn’t pay for the pay-per-view.

**********

Back in the late 90's WWE used to have Jim Ross taking shots at WCW by saying "This isn't the seniors tour," every now and then. Unfortunately, WWE now IS the seniors tour!

Ancient Ric Flair beating three young men single handed (with help from three other ancient wrestlers who got most of the offense when they were in the ring).

The over 40 and the pushing close to 40 DX totally killing their younger opponents in one of the biggest ego strokes you'll ever see.

Does the Undertaker ever put anyone over? Not only can he not bring himself to put over Kennedy clean in a match where he doesn't even need to be pinned or made to submit, but he then beats up Kennedy so much after the match that it makes him look like a complete jobber. Undertaker, start helping to make some younger stars or quite and collect your pension.

Finally a match where the glory went to the younger guys, although surely it would have made more sense for Lashley to get the pin on Big Show? The DQ was a terribly predictable way to get Umaga out of the match as well.

While I have no love for Batista, I actually half wanted him to win because I cannot stand the King Booker character. It's an embarrassing throwback to the terrible mid 90's cartoon characters they used to do in WWE. I really hope they drop the character.

Yet another dull, predictable WWE show. It's getting to the point now where I soon just won't be bothered to watch the "big name" dual brand PPVs, let alone the single brand shows.
