NEXT YEAR, WATCH THE FIESTA BOWL - READER FEEDBACK TO RAW

By PWInsiderXtra Readers on 1/2/2007 1:59 PM
Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. While the title was not at stake, the outcome of last night’s Cena – Federline match STUNK just as much as David Arquette’s victory all those years ago. It doesn’t matter that Cena got his revenge later in the evening. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should a pencil necked geek, rapper /singer wanna be, and a professional parasite get a victory over any brand’s champion.

It's been said that "all publicity is good publicity,” and under that guise I suppose Vince is feeling good about himself with Federline’s story being picked up by several media outlets. However, stunts such as this make me question that premise. Despite all the lame stories and angles that have permeated WWE over the past few years, I’ve tried to hang in and continue watching the product. Last night, however, as soon as Federline scored his pinfall, I switched to the Fiesta bowl and watched a far more interesting, entertaining, and unpredictable program. So while Vince may get short term exposure, how many long suffering core fans will be driven away by yet another inane outcome? And when enough core fans leave, what then?

I don't know why you're asking for feedback guys. After last night, it's pretty clear to me that Raw has nothing to do with professional wrestling, nor does anyone in WWE want it to do with it.

Monday Night Raw is a badly written sitcom with a ring standing around.

Now I see why Jim Ross wanted to go to the Fiesta Bowl, even though he wouldn't have had any fun there either. I'm guessing the creative team can use the excuse that they had New Year's hangovers for this one.

We start out with Cena vs (don't call me K-Fed) K-Fed. Boise St. just scored and goes ahead of Oklahoma 7-0. By the time Umaga lays out Cena and K-Fed gets the pin, Boise has recovered a fumble and now leads 14-0.

Next we spend the next twenty minutes between rehashing DX/Rated RKO and the K-Fed afterparty where Coach announces a four on one handicap match with himself, Nitro, Umaga, and Estrada against Cena. Oklahoma has cut the lead to 14-7.

Let's get to the tag team division and bury all four teams at once with a lame eight man tag match. Before this big mess goes on, Cryme Tyme pickpockets Shaquille O'Neal. If the big fella had gotten into the ring, this may have been worth my time. Oklahoma cuts the lead to 14-10.

Rob Conway makes a resolution to start winning in 2007 and loses in less time than it took to sing Auld Lang Syne. Vince power walks to the ring and I fully expect another member of the Kiss My Ass Club to be inducted. As soon as The Vince mentions The Donald, we know what's coming next. Conway gets fired, nobody cares and Boise St. leads 21-10 at halftime.

More snorefest replays of Lenny, oops, Kenny Dykstra's win over Flair. Kenny says he is the future of Raw, which may not be a bad thing as long as he isn't allowed to give any more promos. Since we are on promos, the masters of the 20 minute promo, HHH and HBK; give us another one that can take up a whole half hour of WWE 24-7. Oklahoma has hot cheerleaders and some guy just won a house during halftime.

Melina vs. Maria with Victoria at ringside is next. Did anyone see Jewel on the commercial for Nashville Star? Someone ought to tell The Vince that you don't need 10 pounds of silicon and ten inches of butt floss to be totally hot! And since when did Jewel become an expert on country music anyway? Melina wins, Victoria attacks Lillian, Mickie James makes the save, and I am rushing to the phone to order Sunday's PPV.

Next comes the old WWE booking of putting superstars in random tag teams to get them on TV in time for the PPV. Kenny and Masters beat Carlito and Flair. At least they didn't kill Kenny's heat by having him job to Flair....I'm sure they will do that this Sunday. Flair gets laid out by Rated RKO with no save from DX. JR tells us later that DX had already left the building. How convenient. Boise St. gets the ball to start the second half.

Finally the event that kept me totally glued (sic) to RAW for two hours, the handicap match. Cena gets DQ'd after two stiff chair shots to Umaga. Cena then FU's everyone that is in his sight, including K-Fed. The saddest part is that that got the biggest pop of the night from the crowd. Boise St. would go on to win one of the best games in college football history 43-42 in overtime. Sorry you missed it JR.

I thought Raw was pretty decent, it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be . I went to the show and it was loud the whole night. During every match people were into it. Everybody was shocked when Cena lost to K-FED.

I thought Raw was a solid show. Say what you want about DX, but I think it would be a lot more pathetic if they paired the same guys up, pretended they had different personalities, and gave them a different group name just to satisfy a bunch of Internet geeks, you know..the "real" fans. (You can't sit there and say that people wouldn't be saying "they might as well be calling them DX 06/07!) No one griped about the horsemen being reincarnated over and over and over and over again. Anyway my point is that HHH and HBK can cut a promo better than most other wrestlers, so people really need to get off their back. They're entertaining.

Nothing is more satisfying than seeing Federline get dropped. I hate him and I hope WWE is done with him.

I hope they are going to start putting Carlito in more meaningful matches. I think he's excellent and I hate that he was used just to make a clever way for Flair to get beaten badly again. Speaking of which...where was DX then?

Could Shaq have looked more uncomfortable?

I like Conway, I hope he does well whichever show he goes on.

The Divas are of course there for eye candy, but hey, they're trying and they're continuing to try tougher moves now. I love how when Christy Hemme was there, she was eye candy, but then she left (and went to TNA of course) and all of a sudden it was "I can't believe WWE released her, she was trying hard and wanted to learn!" Well, it looks like the current divas are trying and seem willing to learn, so why no love for them?

Cena is over with the crowd. Get over it. Hogan had probably less moves than he does and everyone marks out when he shows up (albeit less and less each comeback). Ok, I think that's it. Thank you

Eric
