Full Impact Pro Wrestling Southern Justice DVD Review

by Richard Trionfo

In October, Full Impact Pro Wrestling held its Southern Justice show in Bushnell , Florida .  On this show, we saw the crowning of a new champion and the final step that another man would make on his road to a title.  Who would emerge as the number one contender for the FIP Title to challenge Bryan Danielson in the future?  Would the Heartbreak Express be able to walk out of Bushnell as the champions as they get ready for their Cage of Pain match against Black Mark et?

Your announcers are Jared David and Dave Prazak

Jonathan Gold welcomes everyone to Bushnell for Southern Justice.

Match Number One:  Canadian Cougar defeats Jaison Moore

Moore and Cougar try to get the advantage in the match and Moore uses nefarious means to take control of the early moments of the match.  Cougar forces Moore outside the ring and then Cougar works over Moore on the floor.  The action returns to the ring and Moore works over Cougar and thinks he has the victory after a series of high impact maneuvers.  The battle moves to the turnbuckles and Moore ’s hesitation leads to his downfall as Moore taps out.

Chasyn Rance and Steve Madison of the YRR come out and Rance gets on the mic.  He tells the crowd that they are ‘young, rich, and ready for action’.  He says that they took care of their competition last night and tonight will be no different.  Madison gets on the mic and he comments on the Bushnell crowd and he says that he wants to make short work so he can leave the town.

Erick Stevens comes out and Rance and Madison head for the ring.  Stevens gets on the mic and he is sick of them running.  Stevens is joined by Sal Rinauro and they head to the ring.

Match Number Two:  Chasyn Rance and Steve Madison of the YRR defeat Sal Rinauro and Erick Stevens

Before the match begins, the crowd gets on Madison and Chasyn’s case as they call them ‘chickens’.  Rance and Madison get frustrated with the chants of chicken and they refuse to lock up with Rinauro and Stevens.  Stevens comes into the match and he overpowers Madison and Rance as the members of the YRR leave the ring to regroup.  Stevens is drawn outside and upon his return to the ring, the YRR are able to outsmart Stevens and take control of the match.  Rinauro tries to get involved in the match but the referee stops him and that allows Madison and Rance to double team Stevens, even making a tag that was not seen by the referee.  Madison draws Rinauro off the apron to prevent Stevens from making the tag and the YRR continue to wear down Stevens.  Rinauro makes the tag and he wants Stevens to help him double team Rance but it was a trap and Rinauro hits a super kick on Stevens.  Rinauro ‘tags’ Stevens back in and Madison, Rinauro, and Rance hit a spike piledriver on Stevens for the three count.

Rinauro, Madison, and Rance continue the attack on Stevens but Seth Delay comes to the ring to help out Stevens; and the members of the YRR leave the ring.  Rinauro gets on the mic and he says that he is sick and tired of being sick and tired.  Rinauro says that Stevens has been riding his coattails for the last three months.  Sal says that he was the star and he is going to be hanging out with more stars who are ‘young, rich, and ready for action’.

Dave Prazak comes out with Mr. Milo Beasley, Shingo, and Cyber Kong.  Dave comments on the YRR and he has a good laugh at Seth Delay’s expense.  Dave wants to know why Seth is in the ring because he better leave before Cyber Kong takes care of him.  Dave warns Delay that if he does not leave, something might happen to him.  Prazak tells Seth Delay that he has no chance against Cyber Kong and he signed his own death warrant.

Match Number Three:  Seth Delay defeats Cyber Kong (with Shingo and Mr. Milo Beasley) by disqualification

Kong overpowers Delay at the start of the match and works a side head lock.  Delay uses his speed advantage on Kong but Kong’s strength is too much for Delay when Delay tries to match power moves with Kong.  Delay sends Kong out of the ring and he hits a suicide dive.  Delay takes advantage of a few mistakes by Kong to hit a missile drop kick.  Kong is able to fight back and he puts Delay in an iron claw.  Shingo distracts the referee and that allows Mr. Milo Beasley to give Cyber Kong the pineapple.  Delay gets hit by the pineapple and the referee calls for the bell.

After the match, Dave Prazak wants to know if the plan worked.  Dave is frustrated that the referee was able to see the pineapple shot.  Dave says that this will not sidetrack their plans because Bryan Danielson will successfully defend the FIP Title.  Dave asks Milo if the plan will work in the next match.  Dave says that nobody can take out Shingo so he makes an open challenge to anyone who is FIPping it up tonight.  Dave tells Milo that Shingo needs the victory for DP Associates.

Jerrelle Clark comes out to accept the challenge.

Match Number Four:  Shingo (with Mr. Milo Beasley and Cyber Kong) defeats Jerrelle Clark

Shingo starts off by working on Clark’s legs but Clark works on Shingo’s arm.  Clark uses a series of high impact maneuvers on Shingo to take him down to the mat and then he returns to the arm.  Shingo uses his power advantage to get out of the hold and then he takes control of the match.  Shingo takes advantage of the other members of DP Associates at ringside to distract the referee and Mr. Milo Beasley and Cyber Kong attack Clark .  Mr. Beasley delays Clark’s return to the ring and that allows Shingo to maintain control of the match despite Clark ’s best efforts.  Clark with a number of kicks followed by a handspring moonsault for a near fall.  When it appears that Clark has things under control, he is tripped by Mr. Milo Beasley.  Clark fights back and hits a spinebuster but he cannot take advantage.  Cyber Kong attacks Clark while the referee checks on Mr. Milo Beasley.  Shingo finishes off Clark with the Blood Fall.

The Heartbreak Express comes out and Sean gets on the mic and he tells everyone to shut up because they are not in the mood to deal with peons like the Bushnell fans.  Sean says that he and Phil are not happy campers tonight.  Sean points out that last night in Brooksville, those hooligans Black Mark et kidnapped So Cal Val.  Sean says that they do not know where she is or what they have done with her.  Sean says that they are going to root for Black Mark et for the first time tonight in their match against the Briscoes.  He tells Black Mark et that they better win tonight so they can get some revenge on Black Mark et one way or another.

Match Number Five:  Briscoe Brothers defeat Black Mark et to become the Number One Contenders for the FIP Tag Titles

The Briscoes attack Black Mark et as they enter the ring but Black Mark et gain the advantage.  Once order is restored, Murphy and Machete work over Mark and focus on his back.  Jay hits Machete from the apron and that changes momentum in the match.  The Briscoes double team Machete while keeping Murphy out of the match.  Murphy is finally able to tag in and he uses his size advantage, but Mark takes Murphy down.  Murphy with a spear to Mark but Jay hits a Yakuza kick when Mark tries for a rollup on Murphy after Machete misses on their finisher.

After the match, the Heartbreak Express comes out and they yell at Black Mark et for not winning their match.  Sean says that he is so mad now that he is going to explode.  He tells the Briscoes that they have ruined everything and they will get their title match right now.

Match Number Six:  Briscoe Brothers defeat Heartbreak Express to become the new FIP Tag Team Champions

The match starts with each team pushing the other and then they exchange punches in the ring.  The champions double team Jay while Mark is outside the ring.  Mark hits a springboard super kick on Phil followed by a super kick to Sean.  The Briscoes hit a springboard doomsday device on Phil for the three count.

After the match the Briscoes celebrate in the crowd with the people of Bushnell.

Erick Stevens comes out and he addresses Sal Rinauro and calls him a yellow, turncoat bastard.  He says that Sal Rinauro better come out right now to face him in the ring.  Erick looks for Sal but Sal attacks him from behind.  Stevens sends Rinauro into the guardrails and then he chops him.  Rinauro and Stevens fight into the crowd and then Stevens throws Rinauro down the bleachers.  When the action returns to the ring, Madison and Rance join in and go after Stevens.  Roderick Strong and Seth Delay come out to help Stevens.

Roderick Strong gets on the mic and he tells Stevens and Delay to leave the ring.  Strong wants Matt Sydal to come to the ring for their match.

Match Number Seven:  Roderick Strong defeats Matt Sydal to become the Number One Contender for the FIP Heavyweight Title

The fans are clearly behind Strong during this match and each man tries to work on the arm.  Strong and Sydal are evenly matched and each man is able to counter attempts to get an advantage.  Strong tries to wear down Sydal with forearms but Sydal is able to take control of the match as he utilizes his repertoire of high impact maneuvers.  Sydal tries one too many high impact maneuvers and Strong catches Sydal and hits a fallaway slam.  Strong works on Sydal’s back with a series of backbreakers and a camel clutch.  It appears that Strong has things under control, but Sydal fights back and he sends Strong outside the ring and hits a plancha.  The action returns to the ring and Sydal hits a standing moonsault and rana but Strong is able to kick out.  Strong hits a number of back breakers and then he gets Sydal to tap to the Strong Hold.

After the match, Strong gets on the mic and he tells Davey Richards and Bryan Danielson that he will become the next FIP Heavyweight Champion before he heads to the back.

Match Number Eight:  Bryan Danielson defeats Davey Richards to retain the FIP Heavyweight Title

Before the match begins, Danielson argues with the fans and he threatens to leave and never come back if they are not quiet.  The fans do not comply and Danielson gets more frustrated and trips on a hole in the ground and then tries to go into the crowd but he trips on a chair and falls to the ground.  The match begins and things are even until Richards connects with a kick that appears to have loosened one of Danielson’s teeth so Danielson seeks solace from the members of DP Associates at ringside.  Danielson takes advantage of the match and then he sends Richards outside the ring for Mr. Milo Beasley to interfere and hit an elbow drop from the apron onto Richards.  Danielson wears down Richards and he gets more help from the members of DP Associates while he distracts the referee.  Danielson is sent outside and that gives Richards the chance to take control of the match with a pescado and missile drop kick.  Prazak grabs Richards’s leg to stop his momentum but Richards hits a powerslam and a frog splash for a two count.  Prazak interferes and that allows Danielson to hit a superplex.  Richards gets Danielson in a Stretch Muffler but Prazak gets on the apron to distract the referee.  Danielson gets brass knuckles while Richards deals with Prazak to get the three count.

After the match, Roderick Strong comes into the ring and he gets in Danielson’s face.  Danielson leaves the ring while Strong checks on Richards.  Danielson attacks Strong and leaves the ring.  Richards yells at Strong for pushing him and then Strong and Richards get face to face in the ring.

Southern Justice Thoughts:

This DVD was two hours in length.

The way that the shows are structured, the DVD has a natural flow to it and it does not appear that things are overly edited to make it seem like the matches flow into each other.  I like the way that the shows flow for the first half and then you have two or three matches after intermission.

With the way that the building is configured and with the usual size of the crowd in Bushnell, the building looks empty.  However, this was the best that this specific building has looked on DVD.  However, the way that the crowd reacts to things makes the actual size of the crowd irrelevant.

It is amazing how much heat DP Associates and the Heartbreak Express get from the crowd and it is great to see how they work off the crowd.

Prazak and David work well together on DVD and they have the ability to include a lot of comedy into their commentary.  I liked the Canadian Cougar/S.D. Jones comparison.

They have a dynamic that is similar to Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan, especially with Prazak being an active manager trying to spin things in a way that is favorable to DP Associates.

One thing that David and Prazak do is bring up the history of the wrestlers, including the fact that Erick Stevens and Steve Madison were once tag team partners as the Miracle Violence Connection and that Madison turned on Stevens, just like Rinauro did to Stevens.

This show highlights the strength of the FIP roster and the way that they mix the national talent that is featured on Ring of Honor shows with the Florida and Georgia talent.

The two best matches of the night were Sydal/Strong and Danielson/Richards.

I wish they would have gotten a better angle for the pineapple shot during the Cyber Kong/Seth Delay match because it did not appear that he really connected during the match.

If you were a fan of Matt Sydal’s work in Wrestling Society X then you will enjoy this match because it shows that he can do more than hit his high spots.  I hope they decide to bring Sydal back soon.

Even though there is a delay in the production of FIP DVDs, it is a good way to see how the wrestlers on the roster have improved on subsequent live shows.  It is also good to see how some of the current angles evolved.  Since many of the FIP wrestlers have made their way on to Ring of Honor shows, it is also a way to see the earlier work of guys like Erick Stevens.
