THE WRINGER REVIEW – COVERING JANUARY 18 THROUGH JUNE 24, 2007

By Michael LeBlanc on 6/25/2007 11:20 AM

Well, the 2007 Draft is over, and now it’s time to see what affects the changes have/will have on WWE for the future.  Of course, Raw was the primary beneficiary, and Smackdown was just reamed.

And, oh yeah, Vince McMahon is “dead”.  Right.  Let’s see what the aftermath of that little event will be!  Time to Wring!

RAW WRINGERS – JANUARY 18, 2007

If Vince really did die in a fiery explosion caught on tape, do you really think we’d be seeing the replay of it over and over again?  On second thought…

Anyone else notice all the grey in Mick’s beard?  And shockingly enough, he didn’t try to sell us anything (although he did mention his first book)!

If Vince was having worried thoughts that “something ominous is going to happen” before he died, does anyone else think he might have left a letter with his “lawyer” stating who killed him (or who he thinks killed him)?

And why am I even having to write something like that on a wrestling show?

Oh, another heels vs. face tag match involving all the contenders in the main event for Vengeance?

What, another three-hour Raw?

Why watch footage of your boss getting blown up a hundred times?  Wouldn’t any clues meant to be found show up in the first dozen or so viewings?

Isn’t posing as a federal investigator a crime of some kind?  And by treating the Vince-is-dead storyline as “real”, will WWE be hearing from the real FBI anytime soon?

Oh, man, wouldn’t a Sheik talk-show on Raw just be gold?

Was that a dead rat on the limo driver’s head, or did he stick it in a running blender right before coming on air?

You’ve got to be kidding me – another “Appreciate Vince” night…and three hours worth, just like before?

Anyone else feel like shooting Starburst’s “Berries & Cream” guy?

FINAL NOTES:  I am really against this whole “Vince is dead” storyline, and mostly because they are treating it like it really happened.  Ten bells salutes, tribute videos and “grieving” Superstars, all for a man who isn’t really dead.  It really does lessen the impact of a real death, like Sherri Martel, who only gets a graphic in the middle of the show.  I fear we are in for a summer-full of “who killed Vince”, so even when he’s “dead”, he’s still dominating the programming.

ECW WRINGERS – JUNE 19, 2007

Was Stephanie’s Raw appearance “heart-wrenching” because it was some of the worst acting around?

What kind of uncaring, cold-hearted b**ch of a woman refers to Vince McMahon, her father, as “Mr. McMahon”?

So now they’re running a poll on who killed Vince?  I sure hope “the creative staff” is one of the choices!

What does it say about Kelly Kelly when she screws up the only line of dialogue she had this week?

How was Punk even conscious after Cor Von dropped him right on his head at the end of that match?

TNA WRINGERS – JUNE 21, 2007

What…another complicated stipulation match from TNA?

Anyone else notice the “Total Nonstop Angle” sign in the crowd?  Doesn’t that have a double meaning these days?

Why do the champions have to “qualify” for the Match of Champions?!  They’re already champs!

What a fantastic tribute package for Jill Jarrett – but why did they cut to commercial during the crowd’s response?

SMACKDOWN WRINGERS – JUNE 22, 2007

How can you conduct an interview when the guest doesn’t say a thing, and leaves after a minute or two?

Okay, who couldn’t see the wedding proposal, and subsequent “no” coming from a mile away?

They can’t find anything but another squash match for Chris Masters…after about a year?

What the hell was the point of the Michelle McCool tennis video?

Can’t you see Flair winning the U.S. Title on Sunday, to begin the “Flair Appreciation Tour”?

Don’t you just love it when all the pyro leaves the building with a cloud of smoke for five minutes?

*     *     *

VENGEANCE NOTE:  So, WWE has a “night of champions”, and only one belt changes hands?!  And it’s one of the ones that you hoped and prayed wouldn’t change hands?  Give me a break!

MISCELLANEOUS THOUGHTS

I would like to offer condolences to the family and friends of Sherri Martel, who recently passed away.  It was so sad hearing of her passing, especially at such a young age.  I have fond memories of her career, and can easily say she was one of the best managers of all time.
